My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm kind of adding to this section at random. Maybe in day or few weeks I'll get around to making a this into a compelling narrative for all my loyal readers out there. According to okcupid's personality index, I'm way more arrogant than the average person, but according to the Personality Defect Test, I'm way less arrogant than the average person. Make of that what you will. I guess I like taking the tests, but when they become rife with misspellings and other indicators of only moderate literacy, I expeditiously opt out. Maybe I'll create the "Which Bob Dylan song are you?" test. It would have about 100 possible answers and no two people will agree on what any one of them mean.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Keeping the boat afloat through writing and some woodworking, staying in touch with my many sons, trying to finish my second book (under contract to a major publisher), and keeping an eye peeled for an enduring love interest. I care about what's happening in Washington DC, in corporate boardrooms, and my neighborhood.
As for the things that I find fun... stay tuned. I'll add more text here as time permits.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
People pay me to write and edit stuff and make things out of wood. This is fortunate, because I really enjoy doing those things. I can also carry a tune reasonably well, and cook meals that diverse discerning diners remember fondly for a long time.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Will answer this later. My people are still collecting and compiling the survey data.

Am a fairly literate person with pretty eclectic taste, although I seem to read bestsellers only when I'm shamed into doing so. I read mostly nonfiction, since that's what I do, but novelists such as Calvino, John Berger, Philip Roth, Geoff Dyer, Nicholson Baker, Jeanette Winterson, Michael Ondaatje, and Ian MacEwan are respectably represented on my shelves. Most memorable movies recently screened include Love and Mercy, Grand Budapest Hotel (laughed out loud to see the Schiele parody replace "Boy with Apple"), am a Wes Anderson fan generally, Pina, and Cave of Forgotten Dreams (am also a Herzog completist). All-time faves include Dersu Uzala, Grand Illusion, Stalker, (pick your favorite three Herzog efforts), and The Natural. Don't own a TV. More likely to watch streamed baseball games than any other sort of TV-ish entertainment. Like to go out for live music, usually at Club Helsinki in Hudson.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
I can't think of two branches of the noble eightfold path to dispense with.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
The next paragraph I have to write, or the best way to orient a piece of wood within whatever I'm planning to put together.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
That's a true enough statement for me.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
... I admit only in private.

You're smart, happy with your appearance, have a dry sense of humor, are politically left, physically active, artistically and culturally aware, and know what it means to have tested yourself against life.
