I am paprika, cinnamon, and sugar.
My Self-Summary
Only a hundred characters summarizing my particular set of
intersections of luck, effort and energy. I forget to cash
reimbursement checks and forget to mail my rent check on time, but
in the two and half years I've occupied my current apartment, I've
never had to pay a late fee. Which is nice. I bring home research
papers I've printed out and then use them to mail my nearly-late
rent checks.
I spent a lot of time feeling alternately like a
rabbit or a
flower.
A lot of my life is
psychedelic. Whether I'm choosing to
surround myself with this kind of style or whether this is just my
style I don't know (that is to say: it simply is and I am accepting
it for that, now).
What I’m doing with my life
was, until this past weekend, figuring out what I'm doing with my
life. Now I think I know: I've spent five years doing vaccine
engineering by way of gene engineering.
I’m really good at
forgetting about my body. I take it out for runs and rides, make
sure it is well watered and properly fed with lots of planty
things. Occasional tune-ups with the mechanic. When this thing
hurts it means this other thing needs some attention.
The first things people usually notice about me
my dreadlocks. The Praxair delivery guy asked me today at work if I
had a joint hidden in them. I thought "like....a ball bearing joint
about which the dread rotates?" After asking him to repeat it twice
I figured out what he was asking me. I laughed nervously and left
the cafeteria post haste.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
I like a lot of books. If you like Michel Foucault, or better,
Bruno Latour, we will probably get along. I also really like Haruki
Murakami. And stories about the Buddha.
Movies...I like 'em clever or beautiful.
Lately I am listening to Van Morrison's "Astral Weeks" a lot, along
with akron/family and Animal Collective. The iTunes Genius is
actually pretty great.
I'm an epicurious herbivore! But I also love artificial sweeteners.
Tonight I made tomato basil hummus. We always get the little
four-pack of hummuses (is that a word?) from Trader Joe's for group
meeting and I always kill the tomato basil, so I decided that I
deserve to have that at home: (2 cups dried chickpeas, soaked and
boiled + one big spoonful of tahini + three large + fresh wedges of
garlic (pressed) + one small can of tomato paste + one tablespoon
dried basil leaves + 2 tablespoons olive oil + water to desired
smoothness) * food processor = very delicious. That is what I did
with my Saturday night.
The six things I could never do without
Plants, interesting lighting, my iPod, chickpeas, my Canon AE-1
Program, string.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How the world works. I revisit earlier topics in the conversation
because I was thinking about it some more.
On a typical Friday night I am
learning to exercise a little discipline.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
is that, while I'm generally pretty open and accommodating, I am
occasionally extremely fickle.
You should message me if
you think you would get along with someone whose entire life could
be not totally inaccurately reduced to the following:
I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox
and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast
Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold
Also there is something about someone's skin when you really
connect with them, it just blooms under your fingers. Please like
plants.
