My self-summary
Originally from Birmingham, Alabama, I moved to Portland in October of 2004. I fell in love with the NW after vacationing here in the summer. I consider myself to be an intelligent, thoughtful, independent, open and creative person with a broad sense of humor. I enjoy the company of people, but I also enjoy my own space. That's not to say I couldn't happily share my space with the right partner. I compose a lot of music, it's always been a big part of my life. I recently started doing stand up comedy, which has been a great challenge for me, and has been awesome! I really want to travel in the near future.
What I’m doing with my life
I've been a working musician and private drum instructor for years now, but I'm seriously considering pursuing an education that would allow me to contribute more to society. I recently bowed out of 3 bands to finish composing and recording my own music and hope to have it published and available within the year. Some of my music can be heard here if it interests you:
I recently bought a bicycle, and look forward to getting outdoors this summer. I also have descent camping gear that I wanna use more often.
I’m really good at
I've been an avid musician since I was a child. I play guitar, drums, and piano, although I have mostly taken the role of a drummer in bands. I'm also an active listener, and really try to understand others' perspectives. I'm also very skilled at hydroponic gardening (extrapolate from that what you will, I don't do anything illegal).
The first things people usually notice about me
Probably that I'm short, and have a deep voice.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Music: Far too much to list here, and music is so subjective, but I like complex instrumental music from Steve Reich and Philip Glass, to classic rock like Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, to the jazz/rock, fusion and progressive rock movements of the 1970's specifically (Mahavishnu Orchestra, Miles Davis, 70's era Genesis, Frank Zappa, King Crimson, Gong, Can, etc). Much of my favorite music was written before I was born.

Ideological Influences: Terrence McKenna, Jacque Fresco, Peter Joseph, Gabor Mate, Robert Sapolsky

Shows: I don't spend a lot of time watching tv, but I've most recently enjoyed It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Portlandia, and Breaking Bad. Oh, and also Twin Peaks.

Movies: I love the works of Quintin Tarantino, David Lynch, Stanley Kubrick, the Cohen brothers, and Martin Scorsese most notably.

Food: I love to try as many new foods as possible. I think I developed this trait because my mom was the pickiest eater ever, and cooked the same few, bland meals over and over as I was growing up. I'd say Indian, Thai and Ethiopian are a few of my favorites.
The six things I could never do without
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I've become very interested in causalities recently, such as how environment shapes behavior. I'm also very interested in science and technology, and where it could take us as a society if we don't destroy the biosphere and ourselves with it. Not to sound all gloom and doom, I try to look to the future with hope and optimism.

Over the past couple of years, I've become really concerned about the direction we're headed as a society (ecologically, ideologically, politically, technologically, psychologically, militarily, etc). I am a serious advocate of The Venus Project, which is a systemic and feasible approach toward eliminating poverty, politics, and war through an intelligently managed resource based economy that would arrive at decisions based on research, the scientific method, and the carrying capacity of the earth. This direction could literally provide global abundance and virtually eliminate the waste and pollution caused by our current, primitive and profit driven methods of production and transportation, and in turn, establish a relationship of dynamic equilibrium with nature. Please check out The Venus Project!
On a typical Friday night I am
Maybe hanging out with friends, playing music, or having a beer at a bar.
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 25–40
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For long-term dating, short-term dating
You should message me if find my profile relevant to you're values and/or find me physically attractive. You are capable and unafraid of clearly communicating your feelings and opinions (I am not a mind reader). You are artistic or otherwise creative and contemplative. You enjoy physical touch (snuggling, kissing, caressing). I'm not in a rush to jump into a serious relationship as I've made that mistake in the past, but I am open to a lasting relationship if the potential is there. I just try to be realistic and remain open to possibilities.
