My self-summary
They make a perfect couple. He prefers not to finish his sentences, and she likes to interrupt. They planned a cheap wedding: everything old and borrowed. They saved new and blue for next time.
What I’m doing with my life
Digging out from layers of winter. What did I used to do when the weather was nice? It's been so long. Considering all the digging, I must've been in deep.
I’m really good at
Tricycle exegetics, creating fables, inventing, learning about the making of good decisions, spoonerisms, making my way through a jumbled crowd, backrubs, lateral thinking (obviously), finding the low tech solution.
The first things people usually notice about me
They don't. I blend right in.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I can see that I am somewhat of a fanatic about books, but perhaps not in the usual sense. I've discovered that 90% of the time that people are talking, blogging, etc. about "books", they are thinking about fiction books -- novels. Now, I like novels, or literature, or genre fiction (science fiction in my case), but novels / literature are only a small portion of my reading. I'm mostly a reader, and collector, of non-fiction, mainly reference books or books relating to current interests (solar energy, sociolinguistics, evolutionary psychology, constructed languages, cosmology, etc.).

Over years of haunting library sales, and used book shops, I've built up a collection of foreign language dictionaries. It started out as the idea that if I was ever in the situation of needing to communicate with someone who didn't speak english, I could find the right foreign dictionary and we could start to understand each other. I suppose the fact that this has never happened suggests that my thinking then was quaint, perhaps, or eccentric. Nevertheless, it has become a bit of a hobby, and without ever spending very much, I now have dictionaries for well over 100 languages. In some ways, I seem to myself to be exquisitely prepared for a world where the internet was never invented.
The six things I could never do without
books and songs and ideas and conversations and something positive to stand in the ledger against the costs of doing business in this life, plus a little good luck, if available
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How to sell things in this economy, religion, evolution, cosmology, poker, wordplay, appropriate technology, philosophy, architecture, art, frugality, comedy, sex, human-computer interaction, underlying metaphors ...
On a typical Friday night I am
yes I am.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
depends on the circumstances. here? see above.
You should message me if
You are kind, reasonably fit, have a powerful mind and an appreciative nature, can take a joke, and are craving some human touch
