I was born in Portland and have lived here most of my life. I spent a couple years living in Germany in my early 20s.

I'm a big guy, though I'm very active. My main passions are hiking and mountain climbing. My favorite places to hike are near Mt. Hood and in the Columbia Gorge.

My other interests include drawing, reading, watching movies, traveling, and listening to music. My music tastes vary widely, though I'm definitely not a country music fan.

Miscellaneous things about me: I ride a motorcycle year round, as I don't own a car. I'm mostly vegetarian, though I do eat seafood. I recycle and do my best to live a minimalistic lifestyle. My legs are fully tattooed. I'm a Buddhist, though I don't consider myself religious.

I'm looking for an intellectual lady who is independent and has a great sense of humor.

I don't smoke and never have, so non-smoking is a must!

Essentially, I'm hoping to meet somebody and see where it goes from there.

What I’m doing with my life

I'm a grad student at Portland State. I'm working on my MS in Statistics and my goal is to teach math at the college level.

I work as a software engineer at a small (less than 50 employees) networking company. I'm part of a small team that writes the firmware that runs inside of network switches. Don't worry, I won't tell you about it unless you really want to know.

I'm also in the leadership development program with the Mazamas and am currently a provisional climb leader. Soon I'll be leading my own mountain climbs. Bwua ha ha ha!

I’m really good at

Mountaineering and teaching. I also tell a really good story. I will probably make you laugh, but no promises and no money-back guarantees.

The first things people usually notice about me

If I'm wearing shorts, people usually notice that my legs are fully tattooed. Otherwise, my smile is the most noticeable thing about me. I smile frequently!

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: Ishmael, Life of Pi, The Monkey Wrench Gang, The Time Traveler's Wife.

Movies: Stupid comedies, action movies, and dramas. I really like The Big Lebowski, Mallrats, Inglourious Basterds, and Kill Bill 1 & 2. I also enjoyed Burn After Reading, Run Lola Run, and The Darjeeling Limited.

Music: The Dead Weather, Myrah, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, The White Stripes, The Raconteurs, Franz Ferdinand, Death Cab, Elliott Smith, and much, much more...

Food: Sushi? Yum, my favorite! Despite this, I prefer to go out for breakfast over any other meal. I love the Americanos engineered by the good folks at Stumptown Coffee. I'm fairly open to almost any culinary experience.

I can do without so much, but to answer the question, and in no particular order:

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Planning my next trip.

I hiked the Southern half of the Pacific Crest Trail in 2008 and plan to finish the Northern half after I finish school. I'd also like to go to India for a month or so. Then there's that backpacking trip through Asia that I want to do.

On a typical Friday night I am

Going out with friends or watching movies at home.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I'm stubborn and difficult, but in a good way. By this, I mean that I stand my ground, but can be persuaded. I don't usually take things at face value.
