My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm an easy going, down to earth, practical idealist. An outdoorsy girl who needs to get out in the woods often, whether that be camping, hiking, paddling, skiing, you name it. I spend a lot of time getting my hands dirty in the garden, but I clean up well and enjoy hitting a nice restaurant. I try not to take myself too seriously, peppering intellectual conversation with a little silliness.

I feel lucky to be from Portland, and I’m still baffled at the destination this place has become for tourists and hipsters. While I love it here, I like to travel when I get the chance. I was a Peace Corps volunteer in a little muslim village in West Africa, and I've visited some other cool places if you want to trade stories.

I’m on this site looking to find someone creative, smart, kind, adventurous and sometimes funny to share life's ups and downs with. And I expect I'll make some new friends or little romances along the way.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I have a fulfilling job, working to protect Oregon’s environment. I’m also beginning work on a masters degree. I try to keep a good work/life balance, because while doing something you love is important, it can’t be the only thing you love. This quote pretty much sums it up:

"If the world were merely seductive, that would be easy. If it were merely challenging, that would be no problem. But I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve (or save) the world and a desire to enjoy (or savor) the world. This makes it hard to plan the day." –E.B. White
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Listening. I can put myself in other people's shoes and see multiple sides of an issue.
Making delicious berry jam and pickled green beans from my garden.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I get compliments on my smile, and I'm kinda tall.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Books: Usually fiction. The River Why, Water for Elephants, Poisonwood Bible …

I have an old TV, but I don’t like to have it on very much. I'll pick a series and watch it on Netflix. The Wire, Arrested Development, Mad Men, Justified, Battlestar Galactica, Orange Is The New Black.

Movies: all kinds. Comedies, dramas, documentaries, etc. In addition to the good ones, sometimes the worst movies are the best, like Troll 2.

Music: The Wood Brothers, Tinariwen and Thao & The Get Down Stay Down are favorites lately. Also The Be Good Tanyas, Ray LaMontagne, Khaled, Cesaria Evora, Amadou & Miriam, Otis Redding, Stevie Wonder, Johnny Cash, and cheesy hip hop/dance songs that get stuck in your head.

Food: I like fresh, spicy food and trying new things. Portland has such a bounty of good restaurants. Cooking at home is great too.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Water, air, my bike, friends, chocolate, and forested mountains
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
-Where do I want to go backpacking this summer?
-What's the next house or garden project?
-Am I completely insane to go back to school right now?
-Plus, little things like how to get conservative politicians and city engineers to support protections for our rivers, and whether the human race is capable of addressing such a a large scale, long term problem as climate change.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Meeting friends for happy hour or dinner, going to see a show, or relaxing at home after a long week-- putting something on the grill in the summer or getting toasty by the woodstove on winter nights.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Ummm, well... I suck at trivia and remembering actors' names.
That's about as private as you're gonna get on this website.
