I just joined Okcupid so this profile is full of empty spaces and unanswered questions.

I recently moved back to Brooklyn after many years living upstate and then in Berlin. At the moment I'm banging my head against a wall, trying to finish my dissertation and after that I'll be starting a new job as a professor of film.

How could I possibly know that? Thankfully most people aren't that blunt or honest.

The last novel I could not put down was The Kindly Ones by Jonathan Littell. This may be troubling. I just finally finished reading David Lodge's campus trilogy, getting a clue on my future life as an entitled academic.

Best music I've heard in the last while: Elvis Costello's Punch the Clock, Lush, John Cale at BAM, Dory Previn...

Movies are a constant part of my existence but in the last two months I've been obsessed with sixties and seventies era Brian de Palma and Miyazaki, who I've apparently been missing all my life. Oh and I just caught Robert Downey's Chafed Elbows at Film Forum and that was pretty fucking fantastic.

Lately have been trying to reduce my television watching, but, aside from the universally acknowledged, I've loved a lot of recent British comedy: Garth Marenghi, Mighty Boosh and anything by Chris Morris.

As for eats, the best meal I had in the last month was at Pepe's in New Haven.

What comes randomly to mind: ellipses, dancing to sixties garage rock or motown, karaoke Dr. Dre (see photo), celluloid, breakfast burritos, watching the Knicks not lose.

Fridays don't seem all that different from most days, as open to mischief, bliss or boredom as any other.
