My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Hello! Thanks for stopping by. In a nutshell, I am:
A father of two grown kids--ages 25 and 23...they are my greatest accomplishment (although it's never done, is it?); a former fighter pilot in the Navy...currently an executive in naval intelligence; a lifelong jock who loves vigorous and challenging activities of virtually any kind, indoors or out...also enjoy down time with a book, a favorite TV show, or a movie; a huge fan of live music in small venues; a social liberal and fiscal conservative; an introspective person who has traveled a remarkable emotional journey the past 5-6 years and understands the importance of emotional connection in relationships (of all kinds); starting to think about what I'll do when I grow up, but might choose not to grow seems more fun that way! :) And...I adhere to the lifestyle and philosophy advocated in the book "Younger Next Year."
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
The best I can...being an engaged and loving father; a good friend and sibling; a responsible and engaged citizen; trying to be an inspiriational leader at work; thinking about what comes next and what life is all about. Many more questions than what's left is to live in the moment at hand, capturing and appreciating each day I'm given. "Run the mile you're in" is a quote I read recently that is apt here.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Many things...not very good at many things, too. The one thing I wish I could do, but can't, is play guitar and sing well. OK...two things. :-)
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
My positive outlook and energy, I think, but you tell me.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Some favorite books: Into Thin Air; A Walk In The Woods; Undaunted Courage; almost any John Grisham novel, including his atypical ones (Playing for Pizza and Calico Joe); The Kite Runner; To Kill a many others.

Movies: The Shawshank Redemption, Silver Linings Playbook, The Sound of Music, Seabiscuit, The King's Speech...too many to name.

TV: Grey's Anatomy, The Daily Show, 30 Rock (R.I.P.). These are about the shows I watch nowadays; all on DVR. I'm being encouraged to join the Modern Family viewership; probably will do so soon. I loved Friday Night Lights; the finale was, in my view, perhaps the best TV show of all time (for those of us who were fans of the show).
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
1. Places in nature that invigorate, inspire, and make me feel small (e.g., mountains, the beach, national parks)

2. Dark chocolate, roasted almonds, red "go to" dessert

3. Passion...a purpose to wake up to each day

4. Music, books, and movies...mind, heart, and soul food

5. Laughter

6. Love...doesn't need to be romantic
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
My good fortune...and what comes next. I moved from Annapolis to Old Town Alexandria last year and still think about how cool it is to have a pub in my local Whole Foods. :) Also starting to seriously consider what I want as a next career…perhaps in the non-profit sector.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Having dinner out with a good friend or at home with a nice dinner, a glass or two of wine, and a DVR-ed show or two...recharging at the end of a busy week.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I tend to overshare, but not in public. Although...I never thought I'd share publicly what I have in answering some of those questions. :)

I've learned I am happiest in a relationship with a woman who has a spark that can showcase my lighter side. Also, I might not be a great fit for a pet lover, though that's not a showstopper for me. I grew up with dogs and cats and had pets through my 30s, so I can connect with them, but I've grown to value the freedom and personal space that come without them.

You think we can have some fun together in a monogamous expectations beyond that for right now. I'm open to a life partnership of some kind, but will need to grow into it.
