My self-summary
In lieu of the traditional here-is-where-i-grew-up-and-now-I'm-living-in-Brooklyn (though, if you're interested, I grew up on Long Island and have been living in Brooklyn for the past 4 years), here are a few random things that may give you a better idea of who I am:

I love the opera, but I call the intermission halftime and I'm usually looking at the Chagall mural and/or checking football scores on my phone.

Cooking is therapeutic for me. After a long day I want nothing more than to come home and roast vegetables. I am powerless against the smell of shallots cooking in butter.

I am physically unable to turn down a game of boggle, scrabble, or settlers of catan.

I'd rather have a conversation, go for a walk, or listen to music than watch TV (with the exception of Arrested Development, Stewart and Colbert)
What I’m doing with my life
I'm working on my Ph.D. in art history, focusing on the Baroque (insert "don't fix it" joke here).
I’m really good at
making people laugh, throwing a barbecue, trivia and board games
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: A Hundred Years of Solitude, Things Fall Apart, Catch-22, Borges, Wordsworth, Keats, Donne, David Sedaris

Movies: Old movies, foreign movies, old foreign movies. Anything Woody Allen did in the 70's, Eddie Murphy did in the 80's, or the Coen Brothers did in the 90's. Stanley Kubrick, Alfred Hitchcock

TV Shows: Arrested Development, The Simpsons, Dexter, Breaking Bad, Parks and Recreation, Archer, The Office. Louie, The Twilight Zone, Colbert/Stewart, Chopped

Music: Jazz, Classic Rock, Opera, Indie music. Basically anything but Rihanna

Food: Strawberries, mac and cheese, roasted squash, green vegetables, freshly baked chocolate chip cookies, and anything spicy
The six things I could never do without
Seems like most people list a very similar set of things here (coffee, books, laugher, friends/family - all of which apply to me), so here are some things I COULD do without

1. Raspberries. I just don't like raspberries. People think this means I am from another planet. I'm pretty sure that's not the case

2. Cats. They seem cute and all, but I'm allergic :(

3. The 24-hour news cycle. I think it prevents prevents productive discussion about real problems.

4. People who stroll lazily down the sidewalk 5 abreast.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The 17th century, the possibility of real social change, what I am going to cook for dinner, etymology, the New York Mets
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Constant punning. I hear admitting that you have a problem is the first step, but that is about as far as I've gotten.
I’m looking for

You should message me if
You are curious, kind, and enjoy good conversation and great food
