I am passionate, devoted, and silly.

My Self-Summary

I kind of think that my "dating type" (the sonnet) is a good self-summary.

I am a hardcore liberal, anti-religion, compassionate, sensitive, goofy, nerdy, loving person. I electively spent 5 years as a Mormon, but somehow I'm still domestically challenged (I'm working on it).

Some of the things I want to do before I die include: going whale watching, living on a farm, working with a professional theater company, and living in Europe.

Oh, and I love kids.

I don't want to be pegged as a typical progressive who gets so obsessed with my own agenda that I forget about other viewpoints. I can be extremely outspoken when it comes to my ideas of fairness and justice, but I also have to constantly remind myself that there is always another side.

What I’m doing with my life

I just graduated with a degree in theater from UC Berkeley. I'm currently in a teaching credential program and I'm devoted to fighting against injustices in the educational system. I think I want to teach first grade. I've always heard that the best teachers go where they are least needed, so I want to work in the schools that need me most.

I also work with a children's theater company doing publicity, editing, and ticket sales.

I'm also a single mother to an amazing three-year-old. While I think motherhood is the most challenging and fulfilling role I've encountered, I'd like to keep that separate from okcupid for now.

I’m really good at

listening, video games (when I have time to practice which is not often), teaching, baking chocolate chip cookies, SET, board games, rating pearl tea

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

))<>(( - one of my favorite movies.

Books: Choke, Lullaby, (most everything by Chuck Palahniuk), A Confederacy of Dunces, The Good Earth, Song of Solomon, The Painted Bird, Harry Potter, The Handmaid's Tale

Movies: Dogville, Life is Beautiful, The Sword in the Stone, Memento, Napoleon Dynamite, You, Me, and Everyone We Know, Spirited Away

I'm more into TV than movies. I like devoting myself an hour at a time to something continuous, rather than for 3 hours to something temporary. I like: Dexter, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Heroes, Grey's Anatomy, CSI, True Blood, and Pushing Daisies

Music: Rilo Kiley, The Postal Service, Jason Mraz, Jeff Buckley, Lady Gaga, music that makes me want to dance, Jazz (but no smooth jazz, thanks), and classical

Food: I'm a big foodie (not literally big, though nothing wrong with that if that's what you're in to). I like Indian (especially buffets), Mexican, Thai , Japanese, Chinese, American, Italian, pretty much you name it, except I'm not too keen on Greek food. I also really like all those unhealthy, fatty, but delicious breakfast foods.

The six things I could never do without

1. my laptop, the internet
2. My family (okay, they come first, but my laptop is right in front of me)
3. coffee
4. intellectual discourse
5. wikipedia
6. designer jeans (I can occasionally be a consumer whore, but generally only when it comes to jeans. I don't own many pairs, but I feel like the ones I do should fit well and look hot).

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Social justice, love, embarrassing things I've done in the past, how to become better at things.

On a typical Friday night I am

Either in watching movies or tv, playing video games or board games, or out with friends. I also spend quite a bit of time doing homework, but I consider lesson planning fun, so my Friday nights aren't ruined by boring busy work.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I don't like to shower. I do it because I don't like to be smelly, and I suppose it's a societal norm that I think is important to follow, but I just don't like the feeling of water raining down on me (incidentally, I do love the rain).

I have kind of low self-esteem. I used to rely on the approval of others to calculate my self worth, but I am slowly growing out of that. I try not to let my low self-image impact my relationships.

You should message me if

You like big butts and you cannot lie.

You think you can beat me at guitar hero or munchkin.

Sometimes I go days without responding, and you have to be okay with that.
