Books....Im not a Kindle user yet, however as much as I travel I think its a brilliant tool....Im currently reading 'In The Shadow of the Banyan' an eloquently written story that takes place in Cambodia during the Khmer Rouge regime. Being an avid reader takes me from non fiction writers such as Micheal Pollan ( The Botany of Desire - In Defense of Food) and Daniele Goleman (Ecological Intelligence - Emotional Intelligence) to fiction, poetry, travel writing, magazine journals as Mother Jones, Bust, Vogue, field guides on foraging mushrooms and wild edibles, memoirs, and of course cookbooks and culinary terms and styles. I keep a notebook and dictionary close to me while Im reading at home as I have a love for words Im often looking them up if theyre unknown to me.If I had to choose a favorite author it would be impossible to choose only one,but in the top five would defenitly be Tom Robbins.....his writing style is like a wonderful 5 course meal with captivating company at a humble cafe in Paris.
I dont own a television nor watch much tv so not alot to say about shows....
Enjoy movies from mainstream to indie, documentaries, to foreign film....it can be an altering experience allowing us new insights and perspectives which I appreciate.I often refer to film festival websites to discover the latest films that dont receive as much media attention as Hollywood films.
Ahhh food, I would defenitly consider myself a "foodie" although that term can be a little pretentious. Many of my good friends have been chefs which has given me the opportunity to acquire a few skills along the way. One friend refers to me as the Mistress of Mise en Place ( French for everything in place used as a culinary term) and claims I make the best Ceasar dressing.....so if you dont love garlic honestly Im not interested. Im a firm believer in supporting organic, local regional foods and beverages. I love seafood especially oysters and Wild Salmon...I usually catch my winter supply of Salmon in Alaska and if I dont catch it all, it comes from people I know who fish sustainably. My two favorite entree' dishes would be Paella and Wild Copper River Salmon with local greens and a Ceasar salad ( hold the croutons).
