Books - The cursed web leads me astray. One link leads to another
and away from as many books as I'd like. News, science, history,
lit, etc etc. Some favorites, though, include:
Billy Bathgate (E.L. Doctorow), Growing Up(Russell Baker), Call it
Sleep (Henry Roth), Main Street (Sinclair Lewis). The Bros
Karamazov( Dostoyevsky). American biographies, largely within 20
years of 1900. Lately more drawn to fiction than ever.
Recently finished: Volume of 3 early John Dos Passos novels
including "Manhattan Transfer"
Currently: "Bronx Primitive" by Kate Simon
Movies - "North by Northwest" (somehow can see it over & over).
"Duck Soup". "The Presidents Analyst" (look it up). "The Big
Sleep". Welles:"Lady From Shanghai", "Touch of Evil", "The
Stranger". "The Time Machine" (1960). Grapes of Wrath. Foreign
films I'm steered to. Any good story. Old animation (Fleischers!).
(I gots the Tired of CGI Blues.)
Music - Beatles. Bob Dylan. (Yeah, I know, I know). John Prine,
Mary Chapin Carpenter, Nanci Griffith. (alt folk-country?). 20's
& 30's jazz. Simon, Sullivan, Gilbert & Garfunkel, not
necessarily in that order. Sometimes I fall asleep to 'light
classical' (w/'sleep timer')...
Shows - Not many. I'm not immune to Mad Men, though. Antiques Road
Show: objects d'art, their histories & creators histories,
& family stories, etc etc. Guilty Pleasure: Doc Martin.
Occasional episodes of Korean soaps. There's an endless supply in
Queens. Culturally enlightening. PBS.
Food - Turkey burger, medium, w/mustard. Ham omelet. Actually, I
eat and enjoy a reasonably wide variety. I'll try anything not too
spicy and not too mushy or smelly, and enjoy it. But I'm not quite
a 'foodie'.
