I am ursine, talkative, and interested.

My Self-Summary

Ok, so it's taken me a little while to get working on my profile. I'm a pretty easy going guy who has some free time. If you want to help waste some of it let me know. I am a ridiculous Cardinals fan and I enjoy watching sports in general but, despite having played in college, I'm not really feeling football anymore. I like movies, reading and talking, probably in that order (talking and reading vie for the number 2 spot constantly) I am very big on trying something once (unless it sounds stupid, of course) and exercising dry humor to a confusing degree.

What I’m doing with my life

I write, not nearly as much as I would like to, but enough to pay rent. I still have a few more classes to finish up for my undergrad degree which will almost certainly send me spiraling right back into grad school. Meantime I'll keep writing, tend bar at my wine bar, hope that journalism exists in two years, and support the use of Oxford commas.

The first things people usually notice about me

I probably talk a bit too loud. I'm also tall and imposing which I suppose people notice pretty quickly.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books - I will read almost anything but am really into Jorge Luis Borges right now. He makes me think in ways I wouldn't on my own. List of other books/authors I like: Nabokov, Catch-22, Kurt Vonnegut, Grapes of Wrath, Marvel comic books, Lord of the Rings, Hemingway's short stories, LA Confidential, Moby Dick is also surprisingly awesome. 2666 is what I'm reading right now and I recommend it to everyone alive.

Movies - I have a hard time making it clear to my friends that I have a deep desire to see every movie, even the bad ones. That doesn't mean I like the bad ones, I just want to see them once. Here are some movies I love off the top of my head: Brief Encounter, Once, Meet Me in St. Louis, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Die Hard, Memento, Super Troopers, Once Upon a Time in the West (all Sergio Leone movies actually) James Bond movies, Marx Brothers movies, Ang Lee movies, Pixar Movies, David Cronenberg movies, Patrick Swayze movies, Coen Brothers movies and so many other movies it would be silly to mention them all here. I may try later.

Music - I've found that I like music with strong beats and interesting vocals. I'm also a sucker for upbeat melodies with depressing lyrics, (but I usually only really hear the words the third or fourth time I listen to a song) Talking Heads, David Bowie, Prince, White Stripes, Al Green, Paul Simon, Cat Stevens, The Cure, Beulah, Queen, Jurassic 5, Hank Williams, Flaming Lips, The Kinks, Radiohead, Randy Newman, Wu Tang Clan, I just got into White Rabbits

Food - I love food. Love to make it, love having it made for me. I will try anything one time, and have found almost nothing that I won't try again. Seriously, a really nice dinner at a fancy restaurant and I'm elated; a killer sandwich and I'm delighted. I like to focus on fresh, local ingredients but don't live and die by it. Seriously, food = good.

On a typical Friday night I am

working at the wine bar. If what they mean is "What do you do on your free evenings?" it's never decided. I could be at a show, at a movie screening (I will never give up free movies), talking to friends, testing bartenders' knowledge.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I like the movie Point Break completely unironically. Also, I cry in movies often, but rarely in real life.

You should message me if

you have a movie recommendation, you want to start a civil argument, or somehow you got through this profile without realizing that I'm a douche.
