I am academic, Jewish, and Sweden-loving.

My Self-Summary

I just moved back to St. Louis on December 7. That made St. Louis the fifth place I lived in 2008, having previously lived in San Francisco, Seattle, NYC, and the Hamptons. Let me tell you, I am eager to stay put for a while.

I now live in a cute little apartment in Clayton with my cat (Macaroon), a red Prius, and a red espresso machine (FrancisFrancis X5, if you're in the know--in which case, message me immediately!). In my spare time I write for a couple blogs and freelance as an editor and graphic designer. I spend a lot of time reading news, blogs, Twitter, and webcomics. I love music, including just about anything KEXP plays (except for on the weird shows), Jens Lekman, Peter Bjorn & John, Belle & Sebastian, LCD Soundsystem, Okkervil River, and Andrew Bird. I love going to random shows and I have a weird inexplicable obsession with Swedish pop music. I also love NPR, my favorite shows are This American Life and Marketplace. I have recently expanded my podcast repertoire and now am addicted to You Look Nice Today, Arrive Having Eaten, and Frank & Erik.

One of my favorite things to do is try new restaurants, the most notable being French Laundry in March. Lots of new restaurants have opened in St. Louis since I last lived here--maybe you and I should go out and try some of them! ;)

What I’m doing with my life

I'm finishing my bachelor's degree in economics at Wash U. I did my first two years at Wash U, took a couple years off, and now I'm back and planning to finish up in 2010. I'm also studying furiously for the LSAT, which I'm taking in June so I can apply to law school this fall. In my spare time (what spare time??) I'm going through the new member process (think pledging) for Junior League, practicing yoga, and riding horses.

Oh, and after the LSAT this summer, I'm going to be interning as a policy analyst at a think tank in DC.

I’m really good at

Piano, math, Googling, finding new restaurants to try.

The first things people usually notice about me

My eyes, the fact that my last name is Indian but I am soooo white.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: Franny & Zooey, White Noise, Nine Stories, The Awakening, Information Dashboard Design, Out Stealing Horses, Indecision, And Then We Came to the End, Prep, An Unquiet Mind, Sources of Power, Making Babies (it's a biology book, I am not actually interested in making babies)
Movies: Band of Outsiders, The Bicycle Thief, La Dolce Vita, 8 1/2, Persona, Love Actually
Music: Jens Lekman, Belle & Sebastian, Peter Bjorn & John, LCD Soundsystem, Hot Chip, Cut Copy, Okkervil River, Andrew Bird, the Wrens, boat, Neko Case, The Delgados, Josh Rouse, Mates of State, the Essex Green, Super XX Man, Spoon, Lisa Loeb, Loney Dear, Palaxy Tracks, Junior Varsity, Leif Ove Andsnes, Vladimir Ashkenazy, "boop boop boop be-doop be-doop boop"
Restaurants: Cravings, House of Wong, Miso Lounge, Bar Italia, Coffee Cartel, Dewey's, Kaldi's, Kayak's, Chi (aka Cha Yoon). New favorites since moving back: Pi, Pappy's Smokehouse, Sasha's, and Carl's.

The six things I could never do without

How about six websites I couldn't live without? That's a little easier. Twitter, Favrd, LiveJournal, Google Reader, Volokh Conspiracy, and the many feeds in my RSS reader. (Yes, I use both Google Reader and a desktop client. Shut up.)

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Food!

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I am a former Orthodox Jew. Lately I've been reading Orthodox blogs and remembering why I'm so glad that I'm a FORMER Orthodox Jew.

You should message me if

You don't think going out to restaurants is a waste of money.
