caffeinated, geeksexual, and a cuddleslut
My self-summary Propose an edit
Hi, my name is Katie. I like candlelight dinners and long walks on
the beach.
When I say long walks on the beach, I mean LONG walks on the beach.
I've met people through these services who CLAIM to like long walks
on the beach. But we'll be out there barely an hour before they
start in with "I'm tired" and "Don't you think it's time we head
back?"
BRING A TENT.
What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit
Flailing about how I am going to survive this academic year: I have
three part-time jobs, two partners, a degree to pass and friends to
keep in touch with. I think, at this point, I am supposed to start
going "oh, crap!" but instead, I am hanging around on a
dating website. Like you do.
Seriously, though: I am a Fine Art Photography student, but I am not a
fine art photographer. The jobs I mention are being a part-time
executive officer of my Students' Union, and the student magazine's
photography sub-editor. I also sit on NUS National Council
representing the Women's Campaign.
In between all that, I guzzle Mountain Dew like crack, play games
like Fluxx and
Chez Geek, read,
knit and maybe sleep occasionally. Maybe.
I get called a geek a lot. I take it as a compliment - the
definition ("an individual who is fascinated by knowledge and
imagination") implies intelligence and passion for what
you do; two things that I am proud of, and find incredibly
attractive in others.
(This doesn't extend to you if you spend most/all of
your time playing RPGs or LARPing; you're a nerd. Go and have a
shower.)
I'm really good at Propose an edit
Not blowing my own trumpet.
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit
You might have noticed that I'm sporting silly headgear, a camera
attached to my face, or both simultaneously. (I've even been
known to wear multiple silly hats at the same
time.)
I might be doing something to afford me a strange look, like
knitting or
reading a book
that would make your grandmother cringe.
Or, if I've got my rainbow bag, you might have noticed the various
pin badges which adorn it: I'm a shy but friendly bi feminist and a
typography
geek, I think homophobia is gay, I have no flirt radar and yes, my
partners do know about each other. I believe in freedom, I support
the Open Rights Group and I am a sister (in both the literal and
the political sense).
My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit
Books~ I read whatever catches my interest -
mostly non-fiction, generally related to sexuality/relationship
styles, sex, photography and geek stuff. That said, my favourite
novels are easily The Bitch Goddess
Notebook and The Time Traveler's
Wife. I organise my book collection by Dewey and catalogue them
on LibraryThing. Online, I read blogs of friends and random
interesting strangers alike, as well as news and webcomics, notably
AppleGeeks,
diesel
sweeties, Questionable Content and
xkcd.
(If you mentioned Dan Brown or Harry Potter here, I
probably don't like you.)
Films~ I like films that make me think and films
which aren't necessarily "thinky" films, but make me think anyway.
Some of my favourites are Memento, Equilibrium, Unbreakable, Garden State,
Being John Malkovich, The i Inside, This is England, Eternal
Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Juno, Shortbus, Thankyou For
Smoking and A Beautiful Mind. I adore the Studio Ghibli animations too,
particularly Tonari no Totoro and Howl's
Moving Castle. I have a similar taste in television, mostly
watching one-off documentaries, though I'm into House, Heroes and bits of comedy
too.
Music~ Boards of Canada, DEVO,
Belle
and Sebastian, bis, Tori Amos, Manic Street Preachers,
Sigur Rós,
The Velvet Underground, Katie Melua, The Cure, Le Tigre, Nouvelle Vague, POLYSICS,
Cornelius, Add N
to (X), Camera
Obscura, 2 Many DJ's, AIR, Muse, Semisonic, Final Fantasy, Metric,
Levellers, Garbage, Komeda, Snow Patrol, Röyksopp, Architecture in
Helsinki, data
Panik, All About Eve, The Pipettes, Suede, The Flaming Lips, Must Be
Tuesday, Amiina,
The Ting Tings, The Postal Service...
Food~ I'm not a gastronome by far, though I love
to cook despite not being particularly good at it. People seem to
like my baking, though. I don't really have a favourite cuisine,
but I do love tapas,
cake and sushi.
The six things I could never do without Propose an edit
With time, I could probably adjust to life without most things, though some would take more work than others:
- Caffeine~ you could say I have a habit. I rarely go to London without visiting CyberCandy (though I buy in bulk from American Soda as it's considerably cheaper.)
- Internet access~ it sounds terrible, and I won't deny it: it probably is. Some people compulsively check themselves out in mirrors and shop windows; I check my email.
- Me time~ I can't do the talking-every-day thing, with anyone. I like my independence.
- Hugs, cuddles and snuggles~ I am a huge cuddle-slut, although, awkwardly, often too shy to ask.
- Good books or other brain food like sudoku and logic puzzles.
I spend a lot of time thinking about Propose an edit
Where I'm going next, and how I'm going to pay for it. That smell
in the air just before it rains. The words of the latest song to
get stuck in my head. The sound autumn leaves make when you dance
in them. Feminism
and socialism.
The people I love.
On a typical Friday night I am Propose an edit
Bellringing,
or away either at home or in London.
The most private thing I'm willing to admit here Propose an edit
I need to know and trust someone before I can enjoy having sex with
them. To this end, I'm not interested in casual sex with random
strangers from the Internet. Casual sex with friends, however, is
entirely doable - want to be friends?
Further to that, I'd rather get into someone's mind than their
pants; it's far more interesting and I'm willing to bet your face
is prettier than your genitals. No, seriously: my mind is the most
private thing I have. Bodies are often much the same as any other,
but thoughts and fantasies are much more personal.
You should message me if Propose an edit
- you know of a gig or a band or a book or a film or generally something that I might like.
- you like me, think we'd get on and fancy going out for a drink or a coffee sometime.
- you are capable of using the English language properly and demonstrate this when writing, even on the Internet.
You shouldn't message me if you can't think of anything more original to say than "I like walking on beaches too!" and/or in response to this question, you said something like "you should message me if you want to". It, along with "I'm not telling." and "I don't have a typical Friday night" seem to be the most common themes for the final three profile boxes; such a response is about as useful as not writing anything at all.
