My Self-Summary
I like the arts -- almost all kinds. I am a journalist by trade, trying to do documentary films which makes me feel less guilty about all the Netflix movies I watch. I like the outdoors, particularly mountains and desert and vastness of any sort. I like traveling a lot. I lived in New York and India for a time, but am a native Washington-suburbian. I enjoy dive bars, good juke boxes, bagels with tomato, lettuce, onion and cream cheese with a half-calf of hazelnut coffee (just so you know.) I dig hiking, skiing (poorly), dancing, drinking + singing (i.e. karaoke!) tutoring, reading or watching inspiring stories or people.
Politically, I suppose I am left of left on our jacked spectrum - in that way that makes me use the word "war criminal" a lot. (Only where applicable, however.) I am a lamenter of canceled television series' like Freaks and Geeks and Firefly. I am a vegetarian. I am a baseball fan - or, I should say, an Orioles fan, which makes me a bit of a martyr. I like to play sports and, thanks to two older brothers, I can throw a baseball quite well. I am stellar at puns. I am not so stellar at writing about myself in this format.
I like learning new things (trying to learn ASL, now), love meeting new people, enjoy having intense revelatory conversations. I like dancing. I realize I already mentioned that.
You, my friend, are hopefully a nice guy. As in, not creepy in the least. You are smart, kind, honest, fun, humble etc. etc. Words like integrity and empathy hopefully matter to you. You have some awareness or curiosity about the world outside of our borders. Being snide isn't in your repertoire. Just be good people. Like me.
P.S. Speaking of humility, I am really good at Scrabble and Ping Pong. Rusty at chess, but with some practice, I will own you.
What I’m doing with my life
I’m really good at
The first things people usually notice about me
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Cinema Paradiso, Billy Elliot, In the Mood for Love and all that guys' movies, Kukijiro, The Mission, Sense and Sensibility, The Matrix, LOTR, Star Wars, The Matrix, Eternal Sunshine.., Waltz With Bashir is a new favorite, Fog of War, The Garden. Just saw In The Loop, pretty funny. When We Were Kings, Basically, I'm a fan of heartwarming, poignant, funny, smart, revelatory, transformative. I dont' like to be devastated with no hope of redemption after I watch a movie.
Among them (randomly ordered, tell me if you like any! I love discussing books I love): Yellow Wind, Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Klay, Empire Falls, Traitor's Heart, Mountains Beyond Mountains, A Wrinkle In Time, Malcolm X, The White Mountains (Tripod series), Black Cauldron books, Middlesex, Wuthering Heights, Manchild in a Promised Land (during my forced labor through the Russians: Brothers Karamazov, Fathers and Sons,). This is actually unfair...I could probably give you a better list if I spent more time on this.
Indian food, and most all vegetarian food. (Don't like olives, though.)
