One might think the fabric of choice for doing splits is something flexible like sweat-cloth or lycra- maybe even linen. I chose denim. I assumed the hefty textile density of my jeans would keep my muscles warm enough to perform the act. On a cold and blustery February evening I made a severe miscalculation. On the sidewalk, in front of a stranger who challenged me to do the splits, I, in one fell swoop, tore each and every muscle fiber between my navel and my knees, along with my favorite pair of jeans.
