-Kurt Vonnegut, Christopher Moore, Tom Robbins, Stephen Jay Gould,
-most Wes Anderson films, The Big Lebowski, that Werner
Herzog/Klaus Kinski rendition of Nosferatu, and Predator. Also
Rambo #3 because of that part where John Rambo gets shot through
the abdomen, and cauterizes the wound with GUNPOWDER, to no ill
effects. Flames shoot out both sides and he's walking around just
fine moments later. No man alive or dead will ever meet the
standards of masculinity set forth for me in my youth by this
model, which I find tremendously disappointing. Also,
-Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, and Walking Dead. Comedies
I do too, including 30 Rock, Community, Archer, It's Always Sunny
in Philadelphia, Arrested Development. Also, nonfiction TV,
especially the science-y and nature stuff...I've had more than one
dream narrated by David Attenborough.
-Really depends on my mood; this month was all psychedelia and
crunchy alt-folk (e.g., Brian Jonestown Massacre, Deer Tick, Two
Gallants, Dr Dog), whereas last month was lots of lo-fi and 90's
rock (Yo La Tengo, Fugazi, Sonic Youth type stuff). I also really
appreciate well-crafted song (Paleo, Bill Callahan, Mountain Goats
sorts of things). I just can't get into electronic music, which is
a source of tension between me and my electronic musician brother.
I'm pretty much always willing to catch a show (so long as actual
instruments are involved).
-Whatever I feel like cooking, whenever I have the time (which I
never do, and that's a shame). My mum and brother both did the
pro-chef thing for awhile, so I make one hell of a kitchen bitch,
too. My knife skills? Legendary.
