I am a passionate person. I like the way ideas connect and how knowledge about one subject spills over into new subjects. Knowing at least a little bit about everything is one of my goals. I like both the sciences and the arts, and although I'm no Picasso in practice or theory, I feel like I have a better grasp of aesthetics than your average science major. I'm a pretty big nerd, since I like computers and math, but I like them because they have beauty.

I play the guitar, I listen to a lot of music. I go running in the warm months of the year. I enjoy thunderstorms and rain. I like sleeping when it's cold and I really enjoy eating. Just walking around and exploring the city is super fun.

I recently went hiking for the first time and enjoyed it. I like the idea of camping, but have never been. I could see myself growing my own food or living out in the woods in a cabin. I grew a radish once...

I am passionate, curious, and interested

I just finished a PhD in Computer Science out in the midwest. In September I moved to NYC to start working at a fun and familiar tech company. I live alone in a nice little apartment in the UES. Why are the restaurants in lower Manhattan so much better?

I enjoy setting arbitrary goals in order to generate adventures. Years ago, when I had a car, my friend and I would pick random-but specific-latitude/longitude coordinates, and then we would try to go there using a GPS. I find deliberate randomness appealing.

When I grow up, I want to be an astronaut. Or live like Thoreau at Walden Pond. Or be a long-haul truck driver.

I really have no idea. I'd like to think my irreverence was the first thing people notice about me. Is it possible to look irreverent?

I've had people tell me the way I dress makes me look like an upstanding Christian boy. I've had people say I look like a hippie. Others have said I look very classical or traditional (read, boring). I am none of those things (especially not upstanding). I try to dress in ways that makes it harder to pre-judge me, although I don't know how well I do. What do you think?

There are few foods I don't like. Going out to eat is easily one of my favorite activities. I like ethnic foods, but I am not a snob. At the top of the top are extremely spicy foods, smelly cheeses, and creamy sauces. I am an omnivore.

I also enjoy thinking about relationships---what they are, how I would like interaction with a partner to work, how interaction actually works, and all sorts of other things.

For example, two very important qualities in my ideal relationship are honesty and respect. These are not empty words. By "honesty" I mean brutal honesty; if your partner asks you a question, you should answer as truthfully as possible regardless of how you might think they will react. Not trying to predict how they will feel is a sign of respect. It is not your place to try and protect them from their own feelings. They came to you with the question, and to act as if they were mistaken in asking the question is an insult. Heavy.

If I'm hanging out with somebody, then going out to eat is at the top of my list. Also any random stuff in the city is up for grabs. I recently went to an Animaniacs-themed burlesque show that I enjoyed quite a bit. Seeing art-like-things or museum-like-things is generally encouraged.

Staying in is also fun. Making dinner and playing video games or watching a movie sounds like a nice night to me.
