I am creative, independent, and amiable.

My Self-Summary

Amiable, young-at-heart American expat filmmaker living in Auckland since 2004.

What I’m doing with my life

Refusing to grow up.

More precisely: I came to New Zealand to shift careers, and now make a living as a tv/film editor. If this weren't enough to keep me out of trouble, I'm in the midst of directing my first feature film.

When I'm not making or watching films, I might be:

- relaxing with friends
- watching live music
- travelling (spent April in Vanuatu)
- scuba diving (not often enough)
- finding obscure places to hike around
- reading
- trying something new (at the moment, am teaching myself how to paint in my spare time, in theory; in practice, spare time has been pretty negligible of late)

I played drums for fifteen years before I moved here; my set is gathering dust in the States at the moment. Managed to play with a couple bands earlier this year while spending a couple months in Dunedin; would love to get back into it. In the meantime, I intermittently hack away at my acoustic guitar with more passion than talent.

I’m really good at

being modest.

The first things people usually notice about me

At the moment, my hair, which is the longest it's been in my life. Not sure if that's going to be an ongoing thing or not. The beard is a pretty common talking point as well.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books (Authors): George Saunders, Richard Powers, Richard Ford, David Foster Wallace, Ben Marcus, Joan Didion.

Movies: you really want to get me started? Ok. PUNCH-DRUNK LOVE, MAN WITH A MOVIE CAMERA, NORTH BY NORTHWEST, WALKABOUT, BOTTLE ROCKET, 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, FAST CHEAP AND OUT OF CONTROL, SUSPIRIA, MY NEIGHBOR TOTORO, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND, YOU THE LIVING, THERE WILL BE BLOOD, THE FIVE OBSTRUCTIONS, heaps of stuff by David Lynch and Werner Herzog ... I love good bad movies like TROLL 2 and LADY TERMINATOR, and flat out insane movies like HOLY MOUNTAIN. And lots more.

Music: The Dodos, Explosions in the Sky, Beirut, The Mountain Goats, John Coltrane, The Old 97s, Superchunk, Drive Like Jehu, Polvo, HEALTH, The Boredoms, Bob Wills, Gillian Welch, Neutral Milk Hotel, Built to Spill, 60's soul, lots of eclectic stuff - did 4 years of college radio in the States and grew a taste for most every style.

Food: the good kind. Or if it's Mexican, it doesn't even need to be that good to make me happy.

The six things I could never do without

Friends, my glasses, water, something to play music on, pens, and a notebook.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

everything. I was a philosophy/political science major in university, many moons ago.

On a typical Friday night I am

relaxing with friends, maybe watching a movie, maybe going to see a band if something good is on. Or, of late, making or preparing to make a film.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I've never done this before, and am surprised I'm doing this now. But here we are!

You should message me if

you're a smart, independent, interesting single woman. Or you want to fund a feature film. Or both.
