My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm basically some guy trying to raise a daughter and manage a career. But I'm not just that. I'm worth getting to know. I'm a professional and a failed grunge drummer (Some people have told me they thought this last part was a joke. It isn't, I really am! Or, you know, was.)

I'm not the life of the party, and at my age I'm done apologizing for that. But I am AT the party, enjoying a drink and a conversation with a friend or a stranger in a quiet corner.

I am smart, funny, and a grown up.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Raising a daughter, working as a social worker and trying to keep everything together, pretty much in that order.

The life I lead now sort of amazes me. Half of my days are spent parenting. Laundry, playdates, playing tooth fairy, homework, carpools. The other half I have the freedom to explore the city, catch a movie, go to the gym, whatever. My life is very full, but still, there's room.

More recently, I've been trying to find a decent picture to put here. No luck yet! Maybe you'll take one for me?

Over the past several months I've made a commitment to being more active, which has made a real difference in how I look and feel.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Listening, I think, hence the career. I'm also pretty good at air hockey, though I never went pro.

The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
My height, I hope. Or the fact that my hair isn't quite as green as it looks in this picture. I guess since I've changed pictures this no longer makes sense. But I don't care; it stays.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
I try not to let myself get into a rut with my reading. I mix in fiction and nonfiction on various topics. Some current mainstream favorites include Cormac McCarthy, Haruki Murakami, Junot Diaz, Gillian Flynn, Tana French (reading her new one now, I not so sure about it...), Garry Wills, Nick Hornby and Patricia Highsmith, but ask me tomorrow and I'll probably give you a completely different list. I read the Atlantic, the New Yorker, the NYT and Slate to keep up with what's going on in the world.

Favorite TV shows: Community, Mad Men, Parks and Recreation, Freaks and Geeks, Arrested Development, Brooklyn Nine Nine, 30 Rock (Tina Fey, sigh...), The Wire, Gravity Falls (turned it on for my daughter, kept it on for Kristen Schaal), Firefly, American Experience, Daily Show/Colbert Report/John Oliver. But the reason I still have cable is Turner Classic Movies.

Favorite music: The Pixies, Buffalo Tom, Modest Mouse, Pavement/Malkmus, Billie Holiday, Thelonious Monk, My Bloody Valentine, Stravinsky, Sleater-Kinney (just got tickets!!), Debussy, Real Estate.

I'm scary serious about movies: my DVD collection is obscene (well, you know, obscenely large, not pornographic) I lean toward the arthouse, foreign and classic genres, but I'm also perfectly happy watching the latest action movie or comedy, as long there's something interesting or imaginative about it. Favorites include Amelie, Sweet Smell of Success, Notorious, The Adventures of Robin Hood, Lawrence of Arabia, The Nightmare Before Christmas (cliche but I love it), Bringing Up Baby, The Philadelphia Story (Grant, Hepburn AND Stewart???), Rushmore, Night of the Hunter, Do the Right Thing, Seven Samurai, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Paths of Glory, Groundhog Day, anything Almodovar.

Having a young daughter, I have become an authority on the oeuvre of Mr. Walt Disney. I'm not kidding. Ask me to sing anything from Frozen. I'll do it, I'm not bluffing.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
1. Family
2. My books and movies
3. The latest gadget
4. A really good cup of coffee
5. A really good glass of beer
6. A little peace, quiet and the NYT crossword puzzle once in a while.

Bonus item: Coke Zero. I'm sorry, but that stuff is liquid crack.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
The fact that lately I find myself enjoying taking pictures of my cat in amusing or embarrassing situations.

This should really worry me, right?

Would I get more attention if I typed my profile in all caps?

Profile pictures: when did selfies in the front seat of your car become as ubiquitous as selfies in a public restroom?

Are Myers-Briggs and polyamory really this popular, or is it just something about this site?
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
I could tell you I'm out with a huge group of friends at my favorite bar on a typical Friday night, and sometimes I am, but those days are getting rarer. You know, kids, lives, etc. But joint custody has an upside! I can be easily talked into going out for a drink, a play, a movie or a concert, and now I'll even have time to do it!
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Isn't that thing about taking funny pictures of my cat private enough???

Ok, here's something: my profile is honest! No recent spelunking excursions to Chile, I don't translate aboriginal fertility myths from the original Cuneiform in my spare time, I'm the age I say I am, and my abs are more about drinking six packs than being shaped like them.

If you are wearing glasses I will probably look at your profile. I can't help myself.

There's no reason not to message me, is there? What do you have to lose? I'm a pretty interesting, funny guy if you catch me on a good day, and most of my days are good.
