Life is loss.

Jun 2, 2009

I feel like life is teaching me about loss. I've heard recently a lot about girls committing suicide and people moving away. But I don't understand why. If I was never able to compete in the first place, and if I've lost so much already, why do I need to be "taught"?

And yet so much of spiritual stories is about letting go of attachments and surrender.

Life seems so effortless for others; they dont have to go through any kind of process.

Is a monk a survivor?

--This is already in my summary. Makes more sense to put it here too--

So, once upon a time a man had in his possession a carved white stone. Whenever he was in a worried or stressful situation, he ran his fingers over its surface, and it would calm him. But he could never remember how he got it or where it came from. Even if someone saw it and asked about it, he denied its very existence. This was never intentional.
He worked in the shipping docks, unloading cargo from foreign lands. One day, a ship crewed by people all dressed in white and yellow, and no cargo, landed in the dock. A discussion between their captain and the dock boss led to everyone being sent away from the docks for the weekend.
