My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I come off as a bit distant to many at first. The sarcasm, cynicism and gallows humor I tend to defer to sure don't help either. But in reality - they are just a filter; social sieve for excluding transparent, unintelligent, self-centered and vapid people from my life.

I love a cold, gray winter as much as I do the summertime. A balance of bleak and bright - both have their virtues.

Above all - I appreciate an open mind, a love of nature, dog lovers, visual & music junkies, talkative potheads, a dark sense of humor, endearing neurotics and those of a creative bent.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
My 9-5 is at a TV network on the broadcast tech side of things indulging my nerdy need to press buttons and move faders. In the meantime, I love exploring the city, doing a bit of freelance graphic design, spending hours with the DJ mixer and learning music production.

Being outdoors is a big part of my life - camping, hiking, fishing, biking. There is nothing more recharging than a night under an open sky, all the stimulation of NYC a distant memory...
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
witty repartee, using anachronistic expressions, socio-political discussion, laughing at inappropriate things, playing devil's advocate, trainspotting, listening, extolling the virtues of music, refraining from taking the extolling to pretentious levels, randomly bringing up taboo subjects to get a reaction out of people, fixing what's broken in your house, fixing your computer, aesthetics, static graphic design, carpentry, poetry (or so I'm told), starting campfires, remembering useless facts, not getting lost in the woods
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

“There are two kinds of music. Good music, and the other kind.”

THE BEATLES, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, gritty Blues, Deep Purple, Frank Zappa, King Crimson, Black Sabbath, Rockabilly, Tom Waits, Franck Roger, Mad Season, Balkan music, Atjazz, Osunlade, Ron Trent, Boddhi Satva, Shostakovich, Bill Withers, Alice in Chains, Johnny Cash, 90s Hip-Hop, Bob Dylan, Damian Lazarus, 60s & 70s soul, Old Country, Henrik Schwarz, Afro-Latin Jazz, The Doors, Prokofiev, Cream, The Black Keys, Radiohead, Metallica, The Soft Machine, Gospel, Deep House, High Tide, Chuck Berry, The Mahavishnu Orchestra, White Stripes, Dusty Piano in any genre, John Zorn, Ska, Bebop, Donald Byrd, John McLaughlin, Charles Mingus, Miles Davis, Afro-House, John Coltrane, Wu-Tang Clan, The Black Frank White, Danny Tenaglia, Âme, Charles Webster, Leon Roberts, Francois K, Innervisions, 90s House Music, Christian Prommer, Dennis Ferrer, Afefe Iku, Danny Krivit, Willie Dixon, Jamie Jones, Get Physical Music, Noze, Behrouz, Kerri Chandler, DJ Vibe, dOP, Gogol Bordello, a bit of the ol' Ludvig Van and, uh, my Creedence tapes, man.

I love the smell and feel of old, dusty books.

Haruki Murakami, Max Frei, Edgar Allan Poe, Hunter S. Thompson, Mark Twain, The Brothers Grimm, Lewis Carroll, Hans Christian Andersen, Chuck Klosterman, Astrid Lindgren, George Orwell, Taschen books, Aldous Huxley, Jim Goad, Douglas Coupland, Walt Whitman, Chuck Palaniuk, Linor Goralik, Mikhail Bulgakov, Viktor Pelevin, George Carlin. Lately: a lot of non-fiction, Wired, Popular Mechanics & XLR8R.

The first scene in Easy Rider changed my life...Blue Velvet, Pulp Fiction, Léon, Fargo (yes, as a comedy), Big Lebowski, Black Cat, White Cat, Coen Brothers, Marc Caro, Jean-Pierre Jeunet, Kevin Smith, Man Bites Dog, Terry Gilliam, Shawshank Redemption, David Lynch, Darren Aronofsky, Jan Švankmajer, On the Waterfront, Naked Lunch, Goodfellas, David Cronenberg, Natural Born Killers, Falling Down, Silence Of The Lambs, Scorcese, Larry Clark, Stanley Kubrick, Goodbye Lenin, Pan's Labyrinth, Jim Jarmusch, Donnie Darko, Trainspotting, Forrest Gump, Coffee and Cigarettes, Un Chien Andalou, Everything Is Illuminated, The Matrix (I draw the line after 1), One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Metropolis, Documentaries - especially BBC Nature stuff. I have an aversion to most medieval quest, space-alien and robot sci-fi movies (namely their incessant predictability and visual cliches) but if that's how you geek out, I won't judge ;)

I'm a huge fan of the art of stand-up. The late, great George Carlin, of course. Louis CK can do no wrong. Bill Hicks, Jim Gaffigan, Bill Burr, Jim Jeffries, Steven Lynch, Bo Burnham, Mitch Hedberg, Steven Wright, Jim Norton, Joan Rivers, Colin Quinn, Jim Florentine, Doug Stanhope.. mainly the subversive vein of comedy.

I don't really watch much TV save for Discovery Channel, National Geographic, How Its Made, Penn & Teller's Bullshit, Kids In The Hall Reruns, 20th Century Documentaries, Stewart, Colbert & my beloved New York Rangers. "Reality TV" makes me nauseous. Pleasures I'm not quite guilty about: Family Guy, South Park, Futurama and Robot Chicken. I think "Always Sunny In Philadelphia" isn't even remotely funny which for some reason alienates me from my peers.

As is obvious - I'm a media junkie. If you can open my mind to something new in any of these categories, it's on...

I'm far from picky with my food but partial to Southern soul food, fish, seafood and the endless search for the perfect BBQ. Liberal hot sauce on everything.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
MUSIC, trees, something to read, caffeine, proximity to water, The Beatles
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
MUSIC, graphic design, girls with glasses, Photoshop, typography, finally getting a dog, the bleeding edge of human achievement, the pratfalls of those very achievements, HOCKEY, helvetica, cynical puns, stand-up comedy, the evils of fluorescent lighting, architecture, technological advancements, black & white photography, imagination, website usability, all things mechanical, DIY, design theory, abandoned places, local history, vintage advertising, industrial design, dadaism, satire, social engineering, black humor.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Getting lost in some music, exploring the parks of NYC, exploring the dark concrete alleys of NYC, inviting friends over the house for Jack Daniels and Scrabble, hitting the dancefloor, seeing a stand-up set. Even walking with no destination is great with the right person.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I sometimes dream of living in the Deep South. Samuel Clemens ingrained quite the great image in my young impressionable mind.
You should message me if
Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
If you constantly fix your glasses from sliding down. If "Married To The Sea" makes you laugh. If George Carlin is your prophet. You are a cynic, a misanthrope, an observant wallflower.

If you are a city girl with a country soul.
