My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Singer/songreader and (now less) frequent software developer. When I'm not saving the world from certain-ty, I spend my days putting off the inevitable.

I just started graduate school for Music here in Austin, and will probably be doing that for another 5-7 years.

я говорю только немножко по-русский.

I am free, flailing, and flippant
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Leaving this here for reference: "Writing system software which gives me the freedom to pursue other avocations on the side. Potential future jobs: Opera singer, Lawyer, Professional sleeptester, Editor, actor, director, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, perpetual grad-student. I'm sure I'll think of more."

I have chosen a new direction, and am attending UT starting fall 2013 for a Masters in Vocal Performance. This is the first step in my goal to become a professor of music, so I seem to have chosen some combination of perpetual grad student and Opera singer. :)

Actually, I technically *am* a professional Opera Singer, in that I get paid (very tiny amounts) to do it. If you have binoculars or great seats, you might be able to see me!

If you're a Linux geek, you *may* have used software I wrote. But it's really unlikely, unless you work for one of the companies that buys processors from the company I work for.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Singing. Also I've had success in getting involved in long conversations.

I've also been complimented on my dancing, though I haven't been out regularly for a few years. I *am* interested in getting back into dancing more often (though I'll note that it often conflicts with rehearsal).

я говорю очень хорошо по-англиский.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
My humility. I'm quite proud of it. I would guess that people don't notice me, immediately, as I tend to be quiet around people I don't know. I warm up, though, and get quite chatty.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
books: Gödel, Escher, Bach; A Song of Ice and Fire (series); The Blind Watchmaker; Wheel of Time (well, the first 20 books); A Choice of Catastrophes; I'm a big fan of John Hodgman, and almost anything by Pratchett, Asimov, Hofstadter, Sagan.

movies: A Princess Bride; Anything by the Coen Brothers; Especially The Hudsucker Proxy; American Beauty; Buffy the Vampire Slayer (YES, both the series and the movie); Serenity ...many others

music: Stephen Sondheim, Tori Amos, Joss Whedon, Tchaikovsky, Billy Joel. I'm partial to pianists, but I'm easily amused. I've recently determined that I like fast, complex music. The operas I've enjoyed the most are Rossini, and now Verdi, and the Tchaikovsky I like is all fast-paced.

foods: Pizza, Hummous, Turkey Sandwiches, juice, eggs, marshmallows, batteries...oh, wait. That's my grocery list...

shows: :: Buffy, Firefly, Simpsons, Futurama, Sports Night, Pushing Daisies Better off Ted, House, How I Met Your Mother. There are others, but that's enough for this list

Musical-shows (includes opera): Sondheim, Urinetown, Rossini, Magic Flute, Les Miserables, Man of La Mancha, Boheme.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
1) Friends 2) Internet access 3) Singing 4) Bad puns 5) Good rum 6) The fourth toe on my left foot. The others can go, but that one will be needed later.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Mostly ways to better go about my day, and better ways to go about my days. Sometimes Sysiphus seems lucky, with only one rock to push up the hill, but those days when you notice that one of them is actually closer to the top are really what life is all about. :)
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
I tend to wing it. Sometimes I host a night of games. Sometimes, I just relax. Usually, I hang out with friends...Because while hanging out with my enemies *sounds* fun, it's actually quite tiresome. Barring that, I find ways to entertain myself. I will neither confirm nor deny the performance of hand-puppet shows on my own
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I know more about musical theater than any straight man should. Lately, this includes a lot of opera, too. Seriously, though, if you want to talk about Stephen Sondheim, you might have to tell me to shut up to get me to stop

я не хочу писать.

If you're having fun, and want to share. Or if you're having a snow cone, and want to share. Just kidding: you can't have any of my snow cone, but if you're really nice I might buy you one.

I'm looking for someone kind. Everything else is negotiable, but I'm looking for someone who is kind to others and to me. I tend to be attracted to intelligence, but I'd take a kind dolt over a cruel da vinci anyday. Other than that, I'm looking for that indefinable connection that is often called chemistry.
