I am eccentric, outspoken, and probably late.

My Self-Summary

Guitar hero, t-shirt connoisseur, soda enthusiast, epic scientist.

This summer, I finally completed my PhD. So now, when someone yells out in a crowd "Is there a doctor?", I can say yes. How cool would that be?! Of course, there probably won't be any life or death scenarios where saving somebody requires a deeper understanding of how immune cells communicate during inflammation, or six months of further experimentation. Still, a man can dream...

What I’m doing with my life

I just got out of a long, two year relationship with Barack Obama. We had a good thing going this summer, when he was so good about keeping in touch by email. In the end, turns out all he wanted was money and for me to constantly remind him that I would support him in November. Since then, the emails have stopped coming and we've completely drifted apart. It's probably best for both of us if we see other people.

If today were Tuesday, you could probably find me at The Whistle Stop. They had the brilliant idea to combine alcohol with board games and Super Mario Cart. I'd say its a scientific fact that I'm totally unstoppable on the life sized Connect Four.

On the weekend, there's a good chance you'd run into me at Triple Crown. Good beer on tap, hamburgers and sausages to eat, and plenty of pool, shuffleboard, ping pong and Foosball for everyone.

Any other day, you might bump into me at a restaurant in Hillcrest or North Park, on a bike, sitting on my couch, running through Balboa Park, underneath a laptop, behind a book, or just hanging out with friends.

I’m really good at

Seeing our current reality through the eyes of popular Hollywood productions from the 1980s. Especially Back to the Future and Short Circuit.

The first things people usually notice about me

How I'm feeling. Whether I'm happy, sad, excited, tired, anxious, bored... it's written all over my face. I'm like a human mood ring.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Things I've been doing lately...

Books: The World Without Us (Alan Weisman), The Nine (Jeffrey Toobin), The Satanic Verses (Salman Rushdie), The World Is Flat (Thomas Friedman), One Hundred Years of Solitude (Gabriel García Márquez)

Television: The West Wing, Scrubs, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, Futurama, Flight of the Concords, Trailer Park Boys

Internet: FiveThirtyEight.com, Savage Love, Yacht Rock, The Lonely Island and related Andy Sandberg music videos

Music: The Cure, Interpol, Queens of the Stone Age, Radiohead, Spoon, Tegan and Sara, The Sounds, Weezer, Daft Punk.

Food: Bronx Pizza, El Cuervo, Amarin Thai, Tioli's Crazy Burger, Alexander's, The Linkery. Continuing to branch out, slowly but surely. Delicious suggestions are always welcomed!

The six things I could never do without

Plastic money, the internet, t-shirts, the National Institute of Health, FiveThirtyEight.com, your mom.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

...things that I thought would exist in the future when I was ten: robot buddies, deadly lasers, flying cars, time machines, zombie attacks, ninjas.

... the current economic meltdown. I'm trying to be a good little amateur politico and have an understanding of whats going on, and an opinion on what to do. Unfortunately, it makes my head hurt and instead I'm going to isolate myself in the ivory tower of academia.

... Universal Health Care, and all the other standard good-democrat stuff.

... protests by No on Prop 8 supporters. Where were you two months ago when it would have actually made a difference?

... how freakin cool the iPhone is. I think I have an unhealthy crush on mine.

On a typical Friday night I am

Taking a long walk on the beach, on the way to a museum, before heading to the opera, while enjoying the finer things in life.

Oh, and hoping people aren't interpreting what I say literally.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I have a huge crush on Janet Eagleson.
