I am short, cynical, and mostly harmless.

My Self-Summary

Hello! I'm a tea drinking, fantasy reading, part time scientist who wants to find someone who appreciates the good things in life; Wikipedia, Starbucks, and Moleskine notebooks. I'm really into gadgets and computery stuff, and my two prized possessions are my homemade computer (He's called The Beast Box) and my Nikon D40 camera (He doesn't have a name yet)

I’m not particularly into clubbing and drinking copious amounts of alcohol – they go together, right? – I much prefer a sit down in a quiet pub with good company. I may even have a pint or two if I’m not driving.

What I’m doing with my life

I’ve had a varied life so far, achieving half a physics degree at Bristol University (actually it's nearer to a third of a degree, but that's neither here nor there at this stage), and then went on to volunteering full time in an Oxfam shop for a few months. My next 2 stops were as a stock room monkey at an expensive shoe shop and a purveyor of protein at a health food shop, both of which were low paid and rubbish. So I set my mind to getting a proper job with a salary and pension and such and got myself into the ambulance service as a Student Paramedic.

It's a mixture of learning anatomy and learning what horrible conditions kill people, with plenty of lessons on how not to crash ambulances, and how to carry fat people up and down stairs. Also not forgetting the copious amounts of tea drinking. So yes, I'd say it is as awesome as it sounds.

I’m really good at

I'd like to say I'm really good at Counter Strike, but if I did I'd be blatantly lying, 'cause I'm actually pretty bad. Likewise for Smash Brothers and Mario Kart.

I'm not bad at unicycling, and I think my photography is coming along well enough. Physics was also a strong point of mine too. Not quite up to degree level, but enough to get by :p

The first things people usually notice about me

Perhaps my height, perhaps my unkempt hair. Perhaps even my stupid nerd shirts.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: A Song of Ice and Fire by George RR Martin is the greatest series I have read by a long way. Harry Potter, His Dark Materials and the Discworld books are pretty good too. As long as it's some sort of fantasy, I'm happy.

Movies: Normally Sci Fi, but I don't really do films; I much prefer tv series. The Office, Black Books, Extras, Peep Show, Teachers, 24, Star Trek TNG, Star Trek Voyager, Battlestar Galactica, Look Around You, Garth Marenghi's Dark Place, Father Ted, Blackadder, How I Met Your Mother, Friends

Music: Metal! But I don't wear black t shirts, I don't have long hair, I don't have any piercings, I don't have any tattoos, and I certainly don't do headbanging. So I'm not much of a metal head.

Food: As I always say, I'll eat anything as long as it isn't some sort of disgusting meat. Italian and Chinese food is the best though.

PC Games: Can I add another category here? I definitely spend more time playing games than I do watching tv. Portal, Half Life 2, Counter Strike, Farcry 2, Command and Conquer and Crysis are all worth checking out if you like that sort of thing.

The six things I could never do without

The Oyster Card, because I refuse to pay £2 for a bus
The Laptop, because wireless internet is a beautiful thing
The Firefox, because Internet Explorer just doesn't cut the mustard
The Moleskine, because I love to scribble notes to myself
The Talk radio, because I never liked a lot of that "modern" music
The Facebook, because there's a stalker in all of us

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Do I have enough money to buy something expensive? (Probably not)
Should I build a trebuchet? (perhaps not)
Should I do some exercise? (probably should)
Is there time for another cup of tea? (there's always time for tea)

On a typical Friday night I am

Normally some sort of task involving The Beast Box, be it watching some DVDs, talking on MSN, sucking at Counter Strike, doing the daily stalk on Facebook or endlessly reading random articles on Wikipedia. If the moon's blue (which it isn't very often) I might be out in some sort of respectable drinking house with some friends, poisoning my liver with sugary drinks.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I bought The Sims 3 on opening weekend. Wearing a disguise and under cover of darkness, obviously, but opening weekend nonetheless. I felt pretty dirty.

You should message me if

You've read this far? Seriously, go on, I appreciate a nice message every so often. As long as it isn't about reality television, alcoholic drinking achievements or celebrity gossip, I'll probably respond.
