I am Intellectual, geeky, and dirty minded.

My Self-Summary

I <3 Rachel Maddow.

I'm a geeky guy. I enjoy computers, video games (Especially Nintendo's), driving, politics and figuring out how things work. Oh, and acting like a dork and making an ass out of myself (See attached photos).

I love to argue and debate. Especially on something intellectual or highly charged. Politics, ethics, religion, computers. I've opinionated and I'm not afraid to speak my mind. If you can make a good point and defend it, I may not agree with you, but I respect that. A lot.

I can't spell. Spell check helps though. ( :

Also, I write my smileys upside down.

I'm very liberal. Especially with social issues. For instance, I'm straight, but the gay marriage controversy is something I feel very strongly about. I believe in equal rights for all and think that the government has no right to tell people they can't be married because of antiquated religious mores. This is quite simply a civil rights issue.

I don't watch much TV. If you want to talk about Survivor or American Idol, or whatever the latest "reality" show is, sorry, I haven't seen it. Probably ever. The little bit of TV I do watch is things like The History Channel, CNN, MSNBC, The Science Channel, and other news or educational-type programming. Lately I have started watching Countdown with Keith Olbermann, Rachael Maddow (I love her) and the Daily Show and Colbert Report. The only fiction I have watched recently are Battlestar Galactica and True Blood.

That's about it. Quite long winded, but that's typical of me too. Ask me a simple question, get a 10 minute answer. ( :

What I’m doing with my life

Complicated break-up. Okay, so it's not that complicated. Still friends, but we were never right for each other romantically.

Relocating to Jackson, NJ, and picking up the pieces from the recent death of a friend.

Trying to change careers too. I want to put recruiting behind me (forever) and get back into web development. Learning PHP, mySQL and C# now. I have a long way to go though.

I've started running again, and lifting weights as well. Being back in Jackson, I'm finally near folks who can push me, and keep me going, which is great for sticking with it.

I’m really good at

Computers, videogames, nerdy science stuff, research. I'd put sex too, but everyone thinks that of themselves. Oh why not? Sex. I'm very good at that. (I have references*).

*references are not actually available for comment.

The first things people usually notice about me

People tell me that I am smart. I don't know if that's true or not. I think what they're actually seeing is that I'm very analytical, intellectually curious and I can talk at length about nerdy things that make most people's eyes glaze over.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I love to read, but rarely read anything more than once. The exceptions are the books that truly stand out for me. The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy series, Michael Criton Novels, Philip K. Dick, Whitley Strieber's terrifying alien fiction novels (Communion, Transformation, etc). Lately I've read very little fiction. I read a lot of military history, and aerospace history. I've always been interested in both subjects. Prodigal Soldiers, Every Man a Tiger, Angle of Attack, and of course, I always have a stack of programming books to work my way through. I wouldn't call those "favorites" though.

Movies? In no particular order: Fight Club, Top Gun, The Shawshank Redemption, Goodfellas, Alien, Aliens, Requiem for a Dream, Sin City, Big Fish, 2001, Nuovo cinema Paradiso, Full Metal Jacket, Spirited Away (happiest movie ever), The Green Mile, The Princess Bride, Stand by Me, Groundhog Day, 50 First Dates, Spaceballs, Ghost Busters, Three Kings, most anything with Bruce Willis, Tim Burton films, The Dark Knight, Wall-E, simply too many films to mention, really... Basically I went through the IMDB top 250 here and picked some of my favorites, and some movies that they reminded me of. It would be much better if you asked me what's your favorite movie from a particular genre.

Music, well, I'm not a huge music buff. But as a rule, I prefer music that's "clever". Bloodhound Gang, They Might Be Giants, Ben Folds, Cake, whoever, as long as it's thought provoking, or interesting. I'm a sucker for clever little double entendres, and plays on words. And of course, anything that just sounds good, though that's terribly subjective. Chilli Peppers, Madonna, Billy Joel, KMFDM, NOFX, Queen, Aerosmith, Kenny Rogers (the only country I like really), Dr. Dre, Outkast, Michael Jackson, Lords of Acid, Bouncing Souls, Genesis, Jet, Jurrasic 5, No Doubt, Run-D.M.C., Smash Mouth, Sublime, System of a Down, my tastes are wide and varied.

Food, meh. I'm the pickiest eater you'll ever meet. I drink lots of Pepsi Max, eat mostly red meat, chicken, and pizza and rice. I love spicy foods. I very seldom drink, but when I do, I like good, smooth vodka. Svedka is one of my favorites.

The six things I could never do without

Up, down, strange, charm, bottom, and top.

I kid, I kid. (But 1000 bonus points if you get the (dorky) reference).

My friends, my computer, a decent place to live, love, sex, video games (I loves me some Nintendo)

I spend a lot of time thinking about

I have a love/hate relationship with sci-fi. When it's good, it's my favorite genre. But it's seldom done well and is usually as much embarrassing as entertaining. Embarrassing see: Star Trek (though didn't stop me from watching every episode or each series, except the original) Good see: Battlestar Galactica (the new one), or Philip K. Dick, or Contact (up to the ending).

These days I spend a lot of time thinking about how I feel like I'm getting old. I managed to avoid growing up for a long time. Spent 5 years working for myself, out of my home when and where I wanted. When that went south, finding an honest day job sucked a bit. And now almost everyone I grew up with has a career or a spouse or a kid, or a combination of the three. And it makes me feel really old. "Get married? I can't do that. I'm a 30 year old boy." Also bonus points if you can tell me where that's from. Please don't take this to mean I'm afraid to commit. I'm just afraid that I was never really young...

I also think about (and talk about) politics a lot. As well as science, computers, nerdy hobbies, sex, and the lack of the same.

On a typical Friday night I am

Probably in front of the computer, chatting with friends. Maybe with playing some program trying to do something interesting with my PC. Playing a game, watching a movie, reading.

Mostly I want to relax and unwind in front of my PC. Chat with friends maybe, read some. sometimes we'll go out, but I'm more likely to spend the night at home nerding.

Sometimes, my friends will come over and we will nerd together. It'll be like a Star Trek convention up in here, yo.

Yeah, I said that

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

Not sure. But the quiz results gave me "loverboy" first. I don't think it's inaccurate, but I think that perhaps "The Gentleman" is just as fitting for me. Later it changed to "pool boy" which I think is less accurate.

I also think that there's a bit of a flaw in the way that OKCupid decides some things. For instance, it seems to consider love and sex to be opposites. Like wanting one would somehow diminish your desire for the other.

The thing is, *both* are *very* important to me. I'm not sure I could live the rest of my life with sex but no love, or love but no sex. That's not to say I've never had sex without love... but sex is very important to me, and I love chasing the feeling of being in love. Is that so strange?

You should message me if

How about you should message me if you share some of my interests. If you are a bit nerdy. If you love video games. If you spend more time reading than watching TV. Or if you don't watch TV at all (I've been in that category before).

My personal site is at http://pyromosh.org/ (mostly (very old) pictures) Or stalk me on twitter at http://www.twitter.com/pyromosh/

The site is still up, but keep in mind it hasn't been updated much since 2004 either. On AIM I'm also pyromosh. Feel free to IM me.

My name is totally not descriptive of my personality, because I misunderstood what "mosh" meant when I was just 14. But I started using the nick and stuck with it. Google "pyromosh", and all you find is me.
