My Self-Summary

Hey there :)

I'm a friendly, honest & open minded person. An all 'round great guy, even? Heh.
If that sounds good, skip the rest of my details and drop me a message :)

For those more methodical in their research, I could waffle for pages about my own brilliance (or lack thereof), but then I remember - time is limited - so I'll be direct and to the point (well, mostly).

If someone said to me: "Hey, look, Ben, boil it all down. Massively oversimplify the situation. Tell me how you would describe yourself with a few basic statements."
I would say "Wow... that's really difficult" and try and avoid answering the question. After a walk, a shower, maybe some dinner ... I'd say:
- I have a calm, friendly disposition.
- My life is a fine balance between chaotic order, and ordered chaos
- My sense of humor is generally dry, leaning towards sarcasm with a healthy dose of language related humor thrown in.
- I am just a man.

But for those of you who really want to know more....

I'm a reasonably intelligent, Australian guy who has been living in the Netherlands for a little over 6 years. (Working mainly as a musician in the musical theater world)

At the moment i would just like to go out for a gezellig date with someone new for a start, maybe more, but we'll see.

I would like to find someone who can converse over a wide range of topics, and can be entertaining as well as enjoying being entertained. I guarantee i will make you laugh :)

Ideally someone with a great sense of humor, who is just as happy to laugh at me, with me, and make fun of themselves...god knows i do it myself.

I can be sarcastic, dry witted, and i like people who are the same, or at least like it in others. While i am happy to speak dutch, someone who can converse on a reasonably high level in English would be a plus (but not mandatory)

So let me hear from you. I'm waiting to amuse and be amused

:)

If you want to know more, im an open book, ask away!

(I can speak and read dutch fine, so if you are more comfortable reacting in dutch, it's no problem....i just figure writing in english, and not coming across as a complete grammatical moron might be a better idea / Mag Nederlands mailen, maar het is voor mij nog steeds makkelijker om af en toe in het Engels te communiceren)
Now in Dutch
Ja, ik kan ook in het nederlands schrijven....maar ik denk bijna iedereen kunnen mij begrijpen als ik alleen in het engels schrijven. Ik kan ook nederlands praten en zo...is dit goed genoeg?

What I’m doing with my life

Working in Holland as a professional musician. This takes me from the sublime to the ridiculous. I play pretty much any style in any number of settings. Musical theatre mostly, but also big bands, tv studio work, latin bands, even symphony orchestra and opera occasionaly :

I’m really good at

hmm, music i guess :) I play a variety of instruments in a wide range of styles. I know my way around a computer ok...not uber nerd style, but i can usually make it do what it want, when i want. There are a few things i can cook pretty damn well. I know an awful lot about not much....i do quite well at pub quizzes. Movies, quotes (Simpsons mostly), all sorts of rubbish has been retained by my brain over the course of my life...not all of it useful, nor the right stuff....My biology teacher used to lament that if i was so good at retaining and memorizing useless data, how come i was failing biology? I've been told I'm a good mimic. I can pick up accents quite easily.. not sure how much of a virtue that is..

The first things people usually notice about me

Probably my long curly hair hair, or after finding out that im Australian, how come i don't speak with an Australian accent....(after being in Holland for so long, I've kinda lost it, but it comes back with a vengence when speaking with other Australians.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I'm no literary aficionado I'm afraid. Bring on Dan Brown, Dean Koontz, John Grisham...Harry Potter. I did enjoy the Dune series though. I have a wide variety of movie taste, from Horror, to intelligent comedy, to stupid comedy, drama, thriller, etc etc. The Big Lebowski rates highly, as does the Godfather I & II, and a quite enjoyed LOTR. I love the Princess Bride, and have seen Planes Trains & Automobiles more times than i probably should have. Pretty much anything by Kevin Smith. TV shows that keep me entertained include House, Dexter, True Blood,QI, Boston Legal, Seinfeld, Simpsons Family Guy. As far as music goes, well i have such a wide scope. It kind of depends on what i am playing at the time. I usually say, anything played well. My tastes include, jazz Maria Schneider, Michel Camilo, big band, funk, classical R Strauss, Mahler, Vaughan-Williams,Shostakovich movie soundtracks Hans Zimmer, Thomas Newman, James Newton Howard, Eliot Goldenthal, Danny Elfman..you know it really depends on what mood I'm in, i guess you'll just have to ask and find out. I have generally found out that my moods rarely call for heavy/thrash/death metal, punk rock, or that kind of thing...but I'm open to being convinced.
As far as food goes, well I'm not too fussy. Thai, Indian, Mexican, Surinamse

The six things I could never do without

Do without is so,.....hmm i don't know. I mean im sure i could live without all of these, but im sure i'd miss some of them.

Music, my instrument(s), Humour, computer met internet verbinding, respect, knowing that spread all over the world that there are people whom i love and love me

I spend a lot of time thinking about

What i'm doing, what i could be doing, what i should be doing, what i have to do.

Why when i look at my own profile it says i am only a 85% match with myself......

My travels for this summer:

Which so far include: Russia; Valencia; New York and Chicago

On a typical Friday night I am

define "typical"

most probably playing a gig somewhere

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

im an open book....ask away

You should message me if

I sound remotely interesting. You share common interests with me. You have nothing really better to do. You think maybe we could entertain each other. You are intelligent. You don't mind sarcasm, biting wit, cynicism, and being told how it is.
