My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Oh, hello there! I didn't see you come in. My name is John. I like music, positive attitudes, and being alive. I dislike condescension, coffee with too much sugar, and that impossible hover bike level in Battletoads.

Took a break from the dating scene for a while to decide where I'd like to go in life, ya know, what sort of person I'd like to be. Still figuring that one out but I think I've got enough of an idea that I'm once again open to finding some companionship. Makes the journey more fun when it's shared with a like minded individual.

I'm also a friendly guy in general who finds the more people I meet, the more people I think are pretty swell. So if you're just looking for a new friend and think I could fit the bill don't be shy in letting me know!
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Everybody's favorite question! As of a few months ago I was in a Ph.D. program for biochemistry, but after trying the science life for a half decade I can safely say that academia and writing grants ain't my bag.

Right now I'm working a retail job until I can find some more lab work to pay the bills, but my real passion lies in my creative pursuits. I write music and organize a six-piece folk rock band, as well as work on local independent films as an editor and production assistant. I'm pushing to make these projects more professional pursuits in the long run, but for now I'm your buck-standard starving artist. So far it's made me a much happier person than trying to be a scientist was.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Aw shucks OKcupid, I'm not trying to fish for compliments here! Alright alright, if you insist:

I spend a lot of time writing music, I like to think I'm pretty good at playing the songs I make. I'm also good at video editing, drawing, and other artistic outlets. I'm probably empathetic to a fault, and most of the time I keep a pretty good attitude about life.

At this point I'm also way over educated with regards to biology. So if you have any questions about your cells I can probably give a reasonably well-informed answer.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

Sort of the stuff one would rather discuss, huh? I like classic rock, folk, and indie music. I might have a fanboy heart-attack if Martin Scorsese would let me pick his brain. Breaking Bad has been the cause of missed sleep more than once. Food? Yes, I will eat some more, please and thanks!
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Family, friends, internet, musical instruments, creativity, and Jimmy Page's guitar solo on "You Shook Me."
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
These days it's a lot of boring life stuff, like "where can I find a better job?" and "how can I turn my passions into a paycheck?" I'm a big fan of armchair philosophizing, if you'd ever like to debate the meaning of life and whether that's even a reasonable thing to ponder then please do tell. I'm slowly teaching myself to cook like someone who isn't a young single male, so I've been keeping my eyes peeled for good recipes. Got any to share?
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Shows! I adore live music and take every opportunity I can to go see people play, be they bands of friends or bands I've never seen. Obviously getting together with friends is always a fun go-to, either just to shoot the shit or do fun stuff. I'm regularly working the night shifts Friday and Saturday so before that stuff I'm usually selling printers to nice old couples that do not understand where all the WiFi tubes go.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm secretly a superhero. Please don't tell anyone, lest you put my loved ones at risk.

Okay but for real: I'm on a self-imposed hiatus from drinking (ethanol, not water ya goof!) for the next half year or so. The stress of the last few years of grad school combined with an unhealthy and emotionally abusive relationship left me in something of an emotional state, and for a while I thought my answer was at the bottom of a bottle. I didn't like who I was becoming so I'm taking a break. I don't care if you like to drink, and I'd be happy to come hang out with you at a local watering hole (who DOESN'T like the back yard at Lux, I mean, c'mon). Just, if you're the sort of person that needs everyone around you to be boozing it up when you are, I'm probably not the correct model of android for you.

You want to go grab some coffee and bullshit about politics, philosophy, music, etc. Bonus points if you are creative yourself and wanna find other creatives to create with. More bonus points if you have traveled and can tell me all about awesome places I should go.

Or, ya know, if you feel like it. Free country!
