My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I have a great appreciation for the absurdities of life and the idiosyncrasies of people. I adore travelling, playing my modest record collection and sitting in cafes reading and writing. Some of my favourite things are art exhibitions, old photos, live music, pets, 80s earrings, sitting on trains, men who sing harmonies, bad puns, 50s linoleum tables, giving gifts that nail their recipients’ tastes, paying out members of my family and seeing hot air balloons outside my window when I wake up.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Like many, I moved to Canberra from Sydney for work and have been having a generally wonderful time doing both. I am an arty sort of person and am lucky enough to get to indulge in that passion on a daily basis. I have met some truly spectacular people in Canberra, but thought this might be a good place to scout out one or two more, and perhaps stumble across a bit of romance… I have also spent a fair bit of my non-work time volunteering with community arts stuff in Canberra.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Matinees at the theatre
Hosting dinner parties - especially in a team
Colour coding

I have taught myself to raise one eyebrow, whistle and juggle - all to a rudimentary level. So, dedication is not lacking... priorities perhaps.

Also, I'm terrible at gardens, but I really like them in theory.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
My big smile and loud laugh. Some say it's 'resonant', but I'm pretty sure what they are usually thinking is ‘please shut up, I’m trying to enjoy a quiet coffee at the next table’, or ‘gosh, it would be nice to be able to concentrate on my work three floors down from you’.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

I’m a pretty big reader. I just read ‘Midnight’s Children’ by Salmon Rushdie, and it’s a bit too soon to tell, but he might have just trumped Vladimir Nabokov as my new favourite author. I also love Virginia Wolf and the poetry of Dylan Thomas. I enjoy and try to keep up with a bit of art history research. Films I dig include anything by the Coen Brothers, Wes Anderson, David Lynch; I adore silent cinema - Weimar especially and also Chaplin and Keaton stuff and I really should not watch Strictly Ballroom quite as often as I do. I don't watch a huge amount of television but love a good HBO drama, British comedy or daggy Australian series. It is probably important to admit upfront that my favourite musician of all time is Bob Dylan and that is likely to be a life-long love affair. I also like Ryan Adams, Gillian Welsh and Dave Rawlings, Emmylou Harris, Tom Waits, the Decemberists, Townes van Zandt, Justin Townes Earle and some crackly-record jazz singers like Billie Holiday and Nina Simone. I also like dodgy folk music. I eat absolutely everything and really enjoy cooking.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
adventures about town
ideas & creative expression (mine and everyone else’s)
my Atomica stove top coffee machine
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Australian identity and how it might be reconciled. Feminism. The contents of my handbag.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Having a beer and a fat chat with my mates. It’s the rule.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I have only had three crushes on celebrities in my life: Johnny Depp, Richard Morecroft (I was three, but apparently it was pretty passionate), and Adam Liaw, that guy who won Masterchef a few years ago. Um, yes. Also, I actually like chardonnay.
