I am clever, confident, and creative.

My Self-Summary

I have never been a sports fan and don't really know or care much about which team is playing who or winning. The exception to this is professional cycling, as I follow the 3 Grand Tour races pretty closely, if only to bag on the French for sucking.

I hate being in crowds. It's how I imagine people who hate going to the dentist feel about sitting in the waiting room at the dentist's office-Not totally loathing it yet, but there's a definite sense of dread. I also hate spelling and grammatical errors, as well as tomatoes.

Fear not though, because my life isn't all about loathing crowds or hating the French. I'm actually a very positive person, which I think is because I'm very attuned to irony, or at least I attribute most things I don't like to some very ironic and nefarious force or group. (I can hear it now, "the vast ironic-wing conspiracy") I'm good with words, telling stories, fixing things and being on an even keel. I am a sucker for a girl with great bons mots.

What I’m doing with my life

I'm studying Mechanical Engineering, with an emphasis on solid mechanics and vehicle design. (If you know what solid mechanics is, you might be my dream girl.) It gets esoteric at times, but overall I enjoy it. I don't know what I want to do when I graduate (this June), but it may or may not involve my engineering degree.

I’m really good at

I have an eye for detail, and I learn quickly. I'm also a very good speller.

The first things people usually notice about me

my personality (bravado, animal magnetism, sanguine self-confidence, whatever). I speak clearly and I almost always know what I'm talking about (or I can at least fake that I know what I'm talking about)

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books, movies, music and food? Books: most reference pertaining to vehicle dynamics, solid mechanics or manufacturing. Also, fiction and nonfiction provided it's well written. Favorite book: Population 485, which is the author's description of life in his small town as a volunteer firefighter. Other books: Fight Club, Legacy of Ashes, Ender's Game, Armor, The Forever War
Movies: Anything David Mamet has touched, especially Glengarry Glen Ross. If you haven't seen Glengarry Glen Ross, do yourself a favor and go rent it. Al Pacino, Ed Harris, Jack Lemmon, Kevin Spacey, Alec Baldwin and Alan Arkin play the shadiest real estate salesmen ever, and twist language in fascinating ways. I also enjoy B-movies, especially action movies with lots of money for special effects but none for good writing. Other Movies: Ronin, The Spanish Prisoner, Starship Troopers 1&3, Under Siege, Shane, Serenity, Tigerland, The Good Shepard.
Music: Most music that isn't country. If there's demonstrable technical competence in the instrumentals, great. If there's metaphor and extended metaphor in the lyrics, excellent. Country music doesn't have metaphor...period. If country singers sang gangsta rap songs, they'd sound something like "I woke up today, then my girlfriend left me, then Tyrone shot me in the stomach, and now I have to go to jail". I'm not saying that gangsta rap is necessarily high art, but metaphors abound. Other Music: Eric Prydz (aka Cirez-D, Pryda, etc.), old Black Eyed Peas (pre-Fergie), old Metallica (pre-turning into douchebags), Tom Petty, Neil Young, Lil Wayne, Talking Heads
Food: I love steak (medium rare to medium), pepperoni pizza, meatloaf, lasagna and free samples at Costco. Other Food: Tamales, bacon (breakfast in general), bagels & lox,

The six things I could never do without

1. My brothers.
2. Steak. I don't have it often, but definitely like it
3. Internet. All the world's knowledge at my fingertips, especially knowledge of people doing stupid but humorous things (schadenfreude is a beautiful emotion)
4. Firearms. I really like to shoot stuff
5. Intellectual stimulation. If I get bored, I can be a pain in the ass. I'm counting books in this category, and potentially the internet would count here as well.
6. Food/water/shelter/sex. All that caveman stuff that's still necessary to life. I guess steak counts twice here.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

random tangential things. One day, I was thinking about all the billboards and ad campaigns that say "Never shake a baby" and I thought to myself "Self, what if somebody made a hat for a baby that was really a salt or pepper shaker? People would have to shake a baby to dispense their spices." Bystanders thought this was a horrible idea, but they might have been jealous of its moneymaking potential. Hopefully nobody reads this and then reduces it to practice, because then they could patent it before me (and it's obviously not a trade secret anymore)

As far as dreams and daydreams go, I've always been able to tell if I was dreaming. On the rare occasion I have a "bad" dream, I just wake up. I guess that's kind of cool. I usually have bizarre dreams.

On a typical Friday night I am

Sleeping before midnight, so I can get up on saturday and do something fun. But on a typical saturday night, I'm probably out drinking with friends (I prefer Buffalo, Spike's and other clean and quiet bars), in watching a fight with friends, or working late in the machine shop.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

Private? How about little-known?
I had a bit part in a big opera when I was very young. It's nice to know that I can always rest on my theatrical laurels if I somehow fail at everything else.

I used to be a bar bouncer; I really hate drunk people and crowds, so this was my dream job. It's a surprisingly good job to list on a resume.
