I am lazy, responsible, and talkative.

My Self-Summary

It seems that quite a few people don't check my relationship status before writing to me, so I just wanted to tell you all that unless you are my boyfriend already, I am not going to date you. You can still write to me, but please don't hit on me.

I am working on a PhD in math at the U of Chicago. Please don't ask me what my thesis is about.

When I'm not doing math, I like to read, watch TV, knit, eat, and do other lazy things. I also like to travel and spend time outdoors, neither of which I do nearly often enough.

If I could be doing anything right now and it wouldn't affect my future plans, I would be travelling somewhere I've never been - it doesn't really matter where - with a good book that I can stop to read every now and then. I also would like very much to go back to Budapest. I lived there for about 4 months in 2003.

What I’m doing with my life

I'm going to be a math professor someday. I am studying logic. This encompasses model theory, set theory, computability theory, reverse mathematics, and other diverse subjects. I am a math teacher at the U of Chicago. I watch more TV than I might like to admit, because it's a good break from math and I can do it while eating dinner.

I’m really good at

Getting drunk from only half of one beverage. Making bruschetta. Eating enormous amounts of tofu manicotti. Knowing whether or not something is vegan.

The first things people usually notice about me

I'm short. I'm skinny. I also have a crooked nose and big ears. A hairdresser once told me I should have my ears pinned. I thought that was kind of rude.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

books: So many! Baudolino, Jitterbug Perfume, Foucault's Pendulum, Stranger in a Strange Land, The Unbearable Lightness of Being, The Song of Ice and Fire series, In Watermelon Sugar, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, Catch 22 (that doesn't count because everyone likes that book), short stories by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, older books by Kurt Vonnegut, and anything by Italo Calvino. movies: Serenity, The Girl on the Bridge, Top Secret!, and many more. music: I like lots of music, but I don't listen to it nearly as often as most people. I often miss the early 90's. I like 80's music. And I really love classic rock. And I like Jason Webley a lot, and Ween. And Mew and Eggstone. foods: chocolate, gourmet pizza, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, avocado, pears, coconut, other fruit, garbanzo beans (chick peas), basil, french fries fried in olive oil, fresh bread, potatoes, rice

The six things I could never do without

I am rephrasing this as "The six things I like the most to have:"

Good vegan food; good books; intellectual stimulation (including math); good friends and access to them via instant messaging, at least; things that make me laugh, like the Daily Show; and chocolate (separate from the first item because it's so important)

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Things I need to do. What I'm going to eat. Books. But, I spend a ton of time doing math, so I guess math would be the number one thing I think about. I used to spend a lot of time working with my college Amnesty International group and on other human rights and animal rights issues. But lately I've gotten lazy.

On a typical Friday night I am

forgetting it's Friday.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I'm a Trekkie.

You should message me if

you don't mind if I don't respond for two months, or ever. Or if you have something really interesting to say. I'm becoming less friendly the longer I'm on OkCupid. I apologize in advance for ignoring you.

Please do not message me if you are going to say something like girlykid did in this message to me:

"Subject: Your a vegan [Body:] Takes one to know one in my opinion. I was interested into talking to you until i saw your profile. Too bad your a freakin Jerkoff/NIgger to get to know."
