I am loving, honest, and intense.

My Self-Summary

I'm playful and sympathetic, I tend to think too much, and I love music. I have opinions about a great many things, and sometimes have trouble keeping them to myself. I often start humming or singing softly without realizing I'm doing so. I'm interested in the flow of things--conversations, events, time. . . I think all of creation is incredibly fascinating and precious. I love to learn about people and hear their stories. I spent a couple of years in South America, doing various sorts of volunteer work through the church.

What I’m doing with my life

I recently graduated from seminary and moved back home to LA after three years in Chicago. I'm preparing to be a Presbyterian pastor, which means I spend a lot of time thinking about God and faith and the role that they play in our lives. This is not to say that I try to force my beliefs on anyone, but my faith does inform every decision I make and has a big impact on the way I interact with people and the world.

I have discovered a passion in my life for the pursuit of peace. I work as coordinator of a peacemaking project which takes me to Colombia about once a year, and I hope that this sort of work and peace education will continue to be a part of my life. I am currently planning to move to Colombia or Bolivia at the end of summer 2010.

I’m really good at

giving hugs, laughing, listening, and generally communicating

music, thinking, silliness, quietness

cuddling, baking, cooking, singing

watching movies, giving massages

The first things people usually notice about me

I'm not sure. I've had strangers comment on my smile--I tend to smile a lot. I also seem to be approached a lot by people needing directions, especially when I'm in a city I don't know very well. Perhaps that means I seem confident, knowledgeable, or approachable.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Here's a random sampling:

(a) Grapes of Wrath; Pride and Prejudice; Life of Pi; Gilead; the Choose Your Own Adventure series; The Piggy in the Puddle; Primavera con una esquina rota

(b) American Beauty; Corrina, Corrina; Splash; Tender Mercies; Mulan; Big Trouble in Little China; Zoolander; Danny Deckchair

(c) Maná, Enanitos Verdes, Queen, Mozart, Golijov, The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, Shakira, Emmylou Harris, vallenato, The Proclaimers, Sarah Vaughan!

(d) Food!!! I love to cook and share meals with friends. I have a special fondness for Thai and Indian cuisines. I used to always say that mashed potatoes and ice cream were my all-time favorite foods, and they're definitely great, but I've begun to branch out more, eat more colorful veggies--plus, frozen yogurt of the tart variety is becoming an almost-addiction. I enjoy good dark beer, although I drink fairly rarely. I'm vegetarian.

The six things I could never do without

companionship, loving touch, water, music, trees, and meaningful questions

I spend a lot of time thinking about

the power of love. Not romantic sentimentality, but real love of all varieties. As in "What if the mightiest word is love?... Love that casts a widening pool of light" And "Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."

On a typical Friday night I am

...usually doing something low key. Maybe hanging out with friends, having dinner or playing board games or watching movies, occasionally going to a concert (typically classical). Or maybe I'm at home working on something I've put off for too long, that happens sometimes.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I don't consider many things to be private information, but here's something minorly embarrassing: I talk to myself, and sometimes to inanimate objects.

You should message me if

you think you and I have something to talk about. It's always interesting to meet new people. If you've read this far and have something to say, go for it!
