I am curious, culinary, and caring..

My Self-Summary

I am the older sibling, a daughter of immigrants, an overachiever, a late bloomer, an introvert, an INTJ, a southpaw, a progressive, a contrarian, a lover of old things, a singer of songs, a know it all, a giver of useful gifts, a Capricorn, a night owl, a wearer of contacts, a maker of tasty waffles, a thinker, a walker, a talker.... Like the elephant in the proverbial story, can you know me by these short descriptors? I am hopeful but cautious.

What I’m doing with my life

I'm unconventionally ambitious. I left management positions in the nonprofit world to pursue my passion for all things culinary. I am working as a cook at a friend's restaurant while starting my own food business (I hope to open next year). One day I also hope to be a published food writer.

I’m really good at

cooking, guessing what a food is or what ingredients are in a food, playing pool, dancing, remembering faces, planning parties, and navigating back to my car. My all time super power is running into people I know.

The first things people usually notice about me

I must look kind because people always ask me for directions or money. People also often think I look like someone they know, Korean or non-Korean. I have also been called "Buddha-like."

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

This is the hard part.

Authors - Neal Stephenson, Austen, Murakami,
Directors - Jane Campion, Wong Kar Wai, Wim Wenders, Zhang Ye Mou, Bong Joon Ho
Movies - High Art, Kung Fu Hustle, Man on Wire, The Professional, Babe, The City of Lost Children, L.I.E., Harold and Maude, The Station Agent, Italian for Beginners, 30s screwball comedies, old musicals
Music - Sigur Ros, XTC, Feist, Elvis Costello, Marvin Gaye, Prince, Ella Fitzgerald, Glasvegas, Keane, The Clash, Annie Lennox, Ultravox, The Decemberists, Neko Case, English Beat
Foods - Straus Family Creamery Organic Whole Milk Yogurt (I'm a full fat kind of gal.), all kinds of condiments, southern Indian vegetarian, bun bo hue, all kinds of dumplings, pickles, lima beans, seaweed soup (miyukgook), charcuterie, clotted cream, crisp white wines, madera, homemade hot chocolate, pie (I could go on and on)

The six things I could never do without

Friends/people I love
Good food
Things to read
Sunshine
Quiet time by myself
Nature

There are many other wonderful things that I would never want to do without but have done or could do without so I did not list them above (e.g. lots of great kissing, good radio, indoor plumbing etc.).

I spend a lot of time thinking about

What I am going to eat (shocker!), etymologies and connections between words, why, the most efficient way to do things, anomie and...nothing at all

On a typical Friday night I am

At the gym (it's less crowded on Friday nights) or at the movies or having dinner with friends.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

Last night my dinner consisted of beans on toast (whole wheat) which I ate off a tray lying in bed. Oh, the degeneracy! Does this shock you? Remember, you have been forewarned.

You should message me if

You are a foodie and/or like to cook.
You are not a Republican.
You don't think "intellectual" is a bad word.
You are verbal, like witty comebacks, and can spell.
You are able to express your feelings and know what you want.
You read and would like to read out loud to me.
You have a sense of adventure.
You are not flakey.
You are about quality, not quantity.
You value people over things.
You like to kiss. (I'm serious.)
