My self-summary
Short form:
Born/raised in central Jersey. 25% each of the following ethnicities: Swedish, French, English, German.

2003-2007. BA Int'l. Relations. Minors: French and Japanese. Thesis Woodrow Wilson School and Kansai University

2008-2010. Army Intelligence.

2011-2013 moved back to NY. Television network advertising agent.

Presently: NYU 2013 - TBD.

Politics: socially liberal, but fiscally conservative.

Long form:
Studied a summer in Montpellier, France. Taught French, German, & Japanese to undergrads as a TA and/or tutor.

Wrote a senior research paper while living/studying in Osaka under a Fellow at Princeton on "Buying as Being: Commodification of Beauty, Status, and Self in Post-War Modern Japan" (scoffs at own grandiloquent title). More confused about Japan than when I got there. Had a shiba-inu. Graduated. Worked in accounting briefly. Hated it. Quit.

Joined military intelligence instead of going to law school. Army sent me to school on orders anyway. Nonplussed by plan to embroil self in legally questionable international conflict being foiled. Attempted to write a novel. Only finished 3 chapters. Worked in Monterey, California a few years. Saved a bunch of money. Got out of the Army and moved back East to work in NY for a giant but generally beneficent corporation.

Places I've lived/traveled: NYC, China, all states on the American east coast, Bahamas, Mexico, Jamaica, Disney World, Germany, France, Bermuda, England, Austria, Canada, Belgium, Switzerland, Japan, Alaska, California, Guam, and last but not least Liechtenstein. See where I end up from here...

Things I dislike: Misbehaved children, unruly animals, and high maintenance loudmouth women with attitudes. Incompetence reinforced by authority. Unnecessary complexity. Those who foist their beliefs on others. Being made to wait without a good reason. Talking on the phone when I could do it in person. Waking up early. Getting sandy, sweaty, and/or sticky.

Things I like: Sparsely furnished rooms without clutter. Tennis. Quiet locales in close proximity to major cities. Dried fruit. A well-turned phrase. Schadenfreude. Relaxing listening to bebop with a refreshing beverage. Reliable, efficient, clean, and convenient public transportation a la Paris (depends which area) or Tokyo. Staying up late. Going somewhere I've never been.
What I’m doing with my life
Global Studies at NYU, researching investments/teaching myself finance, and living on the UWS.
I’m really good at
Jeopardy and Trivial Pursuit type games. Exploiting loopholes. Wading through government bureaucracy.

"Aut inveniam viam aut faciam" - Hannibal (attrib.)
The first things people usually notice about me
Being taller than 99% of the population, having eyes that change color depending on the type of lighting, a penchant for trivia and random knowledge, unintentionally making humorous remarks, affinity for colder climes, high tolerance to spicy food.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Anything from Hoagie Haven, Frank Black/The Pixies, very spicy curry, NPR/WNYC, TED Talks, Bret Easton Ellis, Tartuffe, Shinichiro Watanabe, The Bouncing Souls, history or nature/science documentaries, audio courses from The Teaching Company, Honore de Balzac, BBC news/intelligence squared debates, The Colbert Report, Akira Kurosawa, Band of Brothers, Izo, Ghost in the Shell, The New Amsterdams/ Get Up Kids/Matt Pryor, Memento, Brand New, Fight Club, Yelle, Imogen Heap, Michio Kaku, The Neverending Story, Jack London, Bartleby the Scrivener, Camus, Orwell, things Kafka-esque or theatre of the absurd, Enlightenment thinkers, and much more.
The six things I could never do without
Capsaicin infused products
Diet soda/crystal light mix
The convenience of online shopping/banking/entertainment
Amino acids
Something new to learn/engaging conversation
wrinkle-free clothing in all its forms.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
the predominance of solipsism in the post-modern condition of city dwellers.

Is "halfie" a new racial epithet or a term of endearment?
On a typical Friday night I am
indulging whimsy and letting the fates conspire to my eventual amusement and/or dismay.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I used to have a black Persian cat named Chairman Meow. Made me feel like a Bond villain.

I am more enthused by prospect of watching highlights of the Scripps national spelling bee than the Superbowl.
