I am intellectual, idealistic, and inquisitive.
My Self-Summary
I graduated high school at 14 and college at 18, so I'm not your
average bear, although I'm not too socially maladjusted or anything
like that. My average day involves reading, listening to records,
and drinking coffee. I'm really liberal, although I'm
embarrassingly inactive politically. I cast my lot in humanity,
despite the disappointment it has caused me at times. I find it
kind of amusing that someone would consider summarizing themselves
with things they consume rather than with what they actually are. I
spend a lot of time alone, because I like things that way. I can be
a man of few or many words, depending upon how comfortable I am.
What I’m doing with my life
I think talking about my job here might be a bad idea, because it's
a tad under wraps. It's by turns demanding, and fulfilling, and it
doesn't pay well. Hence, I am open to other possibilities, and
always happy to curl up with a good book, a cup of coffee, and some
musical accompaniment. I'm currently writing and recording for no
particular reason other than that that is what makes me happy.
I’m really good at
audiophilia
conversation
scrabble
snobbery
witticism
The first things people usually notice about me
To be honest, I don't really know about this. I don't go around
asking people what distinguishes me from others.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
(A) My favorite authors are
John Steinbeck,
Ayn Rand,
Kurt Vonnegut and
Ray Bradbury. I also like
The Portrait of Dorian
Gray,
The Perks of Being a
Wallflower,
Sex, Drugs, and
Cocoa Puffs,
The Bell Jar,
This Side of
Paradise, and many others that I am too lazy to type at this
point. I have never regretted the time I have spent reading. (B) I
will pretty much watch anything that is not a horror movie. My
favorite movies include The Dreamers, Ghost World, High Fidelity,
and Memento. I mostly watch TV shows on DVD, such as Sex and the
City, Dexter, Scrubs, Weeds, and Californication. (C) My favorite
band is probably
Pavement. I like or liked something or
other about these other bands/artists... ...And You Will Know Us by
the Trail of Dead, Amy Winehouse, Arcade Fire, Art Brut, Band of
Horses, the Beach Boys, the Beatles, Beirut, Black Flag, the Black
Heart Procession, Blind Pilot, Blonde Redhead, Blood Brothers,
Blood Red Shoes, Bob Dylan, Broken Social Scene, Crystal Antlers,
Cursive, Dead Kennedys, Deerhoof, Diana Ross and the Supremes, the
Dodos, Elliott Smith, the Fall, the Flaming Lips, Franz Ferdinand,
Fugazi, Gang of Four, Gray Matter, Guided By Voices, Harlem Shakes,
Heartless Bastards, Howlin' Wolf, Husker Du, Interpol, Jens Lekman,
the Jesus and Mary Chain, Johnny Cash, Lightnin' Hopkins, Lou Reed,
the Magnetic Fields, Minor Threat, Minutemen, Modest Mouse, My
Bloody Valentine, M. Ward, the National, Neutral Milk Hotel,
Nirvana, Of Montreal, On!Air!Library, Operation Ivy, Pedro the
Lion, Peter Bjorn and John, the Pixies, Radiohead, Rasputina, the
Shins, Silver Jews, the Smiths, Smog, Sonic Youth, Spoon, Stephen
Malkmus (and the Jicks), the Strokes, Tapes 'n Tapes, the Unicorns,
Vampire Weekend the Velvet Underground, the Walkmen, Wilderness,
Xiu Xiu, Yo La Tengo. (D) I love almost all foods. I am perhaps
equally happy with a big juicy burger as I am with a vegan tofu and
avocado sandwich. I am a major fan of ethnic cuisine that I cannot
prepare well, per se (or at all), including Lebanese, Greek,
Indian, and Cuban. My longtime loves are Mexican and Italian.
The six things I could never do without
On a limited time scale, I could do without almost all things. If
you extend it a bit, I think I would need water first, then food,
music, and books. After that, who knows? Perhaps coffee? My
computer? My guitar?
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How fucked up the world is.
On a typical Friday night I am
It depends. Usually I am listening to music, occasionally out with
friends, occasionally reading, sometimes at work, frequently at my
apartment.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
Haha! Admit something private here? Maybe that I can't dance... but
that is public knowledge.
You should message me if
you know the meaning to life
Modern Art makes you want to rock out
you like to make fun of people (including me)
you can appreciate a variety of beers that you don't find in the
supermarket
you can hold a good conversation
you appreciate things that are beautiful
you still read just for the fun of it
you have a good command of the English language (bonus points if
you can speak another)
you enjoy ethnic foods or art museums
you abuse parentheses and ellipses
you are looking for a new and (maybe) interesting friend
conversely, you should not message me if:
you are looking for the love of your life (I am not, at this
point)
you are a Christian (or, insert other religion here), and it plays
a big part in your life/defines you as a person
you voted Republican (and yes, I realize Republican is a noun or
adjective, not adverb)
you can't laugh at yourself
you are after guys for their money (I work in social services, and
you will be wasting your time)
In all honesty, I am looking for peers. This could be friends,
lovers, etc. What I want more than anything else is to be with
someone who can make me aspire to be a better person, and enriches
me (hopefully I can return the favor, of course). In spite of past
experiences, I am still open to this, if cynical about the
likelihood. If you have the mettle to message my snobby and
despondent self, kudos to you.
