My self-summary Propose an edit
I'm a socialist/feminist/posthumanist geek with alternating
love/hate relationship with humanity. I like most of the "standard"
geeky things like video games (particularly RPGs), reading books,
dorking around on the Internet, and talking about esoteric
things.
I'm shy, socially awkward, and all together a failure at
communication sometimes. I'm working on it, but the only way to do
that is to actually communicate. So sometimes I'll pause awkwardly
and not really know what to say in a conversation.
I love learning. One of my favourite activities is simply playing
the Wikipedia
game: I start on one article and read related articles that look
interesting until I find myself on some radically different
subject. This has since spread to TV tropes and other similar
information repositories.
Sometimes I'm silly. Sometimes I'm serious. Sometimes I seem
serious but am being silly, or vice versa. It happens.
I love animals of all sorts, particularly felines, canids,
cetaceans, birds, and rodents. As my username probably conveys, I
also like dinosaurs (which of course does include the
aforementioned birds).
I should note that I'm really not bisexual, but rather pansexual, so I'm
potentially attracted to people of any gender. But to be honest, I
tend to be more interested in women and genderqueer folk than men.
Ah well, fuck the labels.
(I've been working on revising this. It still needs some reworking
though.)
What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit
I'm a recent college graduate with a BA in Asian Studies. I'm looking to
enroll in graduate school in about a year
and continue my education, perhaps after studying abroad. I hope to study
queer
culture in East
Asia, particularly Japan.
If I could, I'd study a great number of fields in an attempt to
become a polymath. These would include Theology/mythology (particularly the
kind not restricted to just Abrahamic religions), World History, Lingusitics, Chemistry, and Biology. Unfortunately I
don't have the time nor the money to learn all these wonderful
things outside of casual research.
I'm rather interested in queer activism, and I'm vaguely
interested in becoming an author of both fiction and nonfiction.
Unfortunately things tend to get in the way of both.
I (not so) secretly hope to save the world someday, though I
haven't quite figured out how yet.
I'm really good at Propose an edit
I'm really good at finding things on the internet, researching
things most people don't care about, etc. I can pick out patterns
in various things pretty well too.
I have a pretty decent sense of direction, so I don't get lost very
easily.
I also have a pretty good long term memory. Once something gets
stuck in there, it's not going away for some time. (Short term on
the other hand, things start getting slightly goldfishy...)
I guess I'm pretty good at non-sequitors, though this isn't exactly
intentional most of the time. I also have a pretty good imagination
(for an adult) but that's not always a good thing.
I'm good at making up completely implausible stories. Occasionally
people believe them.
I'm also really good at making terrible puns. Not so much the good
ones.
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit
Probably my height. I'm just a bit tall.

The six things I could never do without Propose an edit
Close friends, lofty goals, music, wonderful things to read, food
with actual flavour/spice, respect
I spend a lot of time thinking about Propose an edit
I think about anything and everything. A common stream of thought
starts on some topic (like ducks), invariably ends up in the realm
of theology or politics, swings through heresy into the eclectic,
then comes back in to the topic again. Repeat ad infinitum. (For
those who know their maths, I don't go off on tangents so much as
secants.)
A number of topics I'm greatly interested in:
-Politics (I'm a lavender-red/green kind of girl)
-Cultural interactions (You'd be surprised how much cultural
interaction went on between societies we generally think of as
completely alien from each other. Rome and Han China were in
contact with each other as early as the 2nd century BCE. It's not
like Central Asia had this giant wall that only Marco Polo could
climb.)
-The nature of the universe, and the inhabitants (such astrobiology
questions like the Fermi paradox)
-Animal intelligence (particularly that of Corvids and Psittacines
(Parrots) as of late)
-Human/Primate behaviour, including intimacy
I also think about how fucked up humanity is, and how beautiful it
can be as well. I'm a mix of misanthrope and philanthrope, with a
heavy dose of posthumanist thrown in. (Yes, I don't think humans
are the be-all and end-all of life on Earth. We're just one species
of many on this blue Earth, and we're ruining it for a lot of the
others.)
On a typical Friday night I am Propose an edit
More often than not I'm shut in. I'd like to get out more, but all
the social anxiety / shyness gets in the way.
Ideally I spend it with a few close friends, perhaps going out,
perhaps staying in together for a night of gaming/movies or the
like.
The most private thing I'm willing to admit here Propose an edit
I'm really not all that good at talking in real life. I'm much
better at communicating by type typically. I'm not a very good
conversationalist either, but I can typically keep a conversation
going if it's a topic I find interesting. With this said, I
actually do like to talk in real life. I'm just saying that I'm
terrible at it.
Guilty pleasures: I really like puns. This probably makes me a terrible
person, but that's okay. Furthermore, I like really terrible slash.
I don't really read much slash, but I do enjoy reading the most
terrible to laugh at it.
I've actually read Memoirs of a Geisha, but
only because I wanted to laugh at/critique its terrible
Orientalism. (I suggest not reading it.)
You should message me if Propose an edit
NOTE: I WILL miss your IMs 90% of the time, as I tend to leave tabs
open. If you want to message me, send a mail. I actually get
notified of those things.
I'm mostly interested in making more local friends to hang out with
and do stuff with. Most of my friends from college have all
graduated and moved away so I don't have many local ones left. I'm
mostly interested in people who are late-undergraduate-aged or
graduate-aged (20-30 or so), but an person who is exceptional in
other qualities could be of any age.
I'd be most interested in people who are also liberal-minded geeks.
I'd love to meet an open-minded person who I could talk about
things like science, books, video games, politics, Japanese
culture, queer culture, and such. As such, please don't message me
if you have the mental age of a 12 year old playing a FPS/MMO while
calling everyone gay/retarded. Or for that matter, if you're the
average *channer. (Though the two are not obviously not mutually
exclusive...)
Being a feminist is pretty much a requirement (and I don't mean the
exclusionist kinds who are racist, misandrist,
homo-/bi-/transphobic, etc.). A healthy love/hate relationship with
humanity (in general) is a definite plus, as are posthumanist and
socialist beliefs.
I'll be honest here: I'm also more likely to talk to you if you're
a woman or genderqueer person. Sorry, guys, I'm just more on the
lesbian side of the fence. I'll still try to make some kind of
conversation though.
Though, I should say, I'm not interested in dating so much, but I
would be open to the possibility, particularly after friendship.
But we'll see!
I'm also interested in meeting Go players for real life or online
Go. I don't really have anyone to play it with. Though it'd be best
if we were friends too.
Oh, and please don't message me if you can only communicate via
netspeak. Yes, grammatically challenged cats are cute, and I will
assure you, I do liek mudkips, but it gets tiring after a while
when you want intelligent conversation. IY KAN TAIP WiERD 4 TEH
lulz 2. Sometimes. Sometimes.
Also, don't message me if you're just going to say I'm cute/sexy
whatever. I don't care about that shit. I prefer real
conversations.
