My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm a very queer trans man who moved to the western NC area from Chicago just over a year ago. I lose hours of my life in libraries and used bookstores. I like to sing karaoke and drink whiskey, take the dog on hikes and poke the logs in the fireplace. I'm a writer and zen shiatsuist. I'm a nerd who likes bird watching, I love going to movies and plays, both cooking and eating, driving on the Blue Ridge Parkway and dipping my feet in the creek while sitting on a rock.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Building my shiatsu practice (Mountain Zen Shiatsu), doing freelance work as an editor and producer, working as an acupuncture assistant in Asheville, and renting a house on a mountain in Montreat with my wife and dog.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
remembering that actor from another movie.

Being present and listening to what someone is telling me, even if they aren't explicitly saying it.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
my laugh, my dimples.....my beard and glasses, if I want to be more literal.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

My favorite breakfast is sweet potato and scallion hash with a fried egg on top. I ate a lot of quinoa and kale while living at a zen temple, but I can't turn down bacon or a medium rare steak. I'll eat most cuisine that features cumin as a dominant spice, well actually, I'll eat most anything, I'm an omnivore that tends toward sustainable eating for my own body as well as my community and world, but I'm not a snob about it and I will totally throw down some fast food on a road trip.

The short answer is that my favorite book is "Tomorrow in the Battle Think On Me" by Javier Marias. Also "The Post Birthday World" by Lionel Shriver. I enjoy most things by Michael Cunningham and Sarah Schulman. My two favorite classes in college involved reading every book by Virginia Woolf and Dostoevsky. I keep meaning to read Anna Karenina. I love Frank O'Hara and John Ashbery, but I'm not mad at Mary Oliver and Billy Collins. Those Gillian Flynn thriller books were delicious candy to me. I recently finished Janet Mock's memoir Redefining Realness and you should go read it right now.

I tend to devour one television show at a time, recent examples as Damages, Scandal, House of Cards. I like Mad Men, Game of Thrones, American Horror Story, Bob's Burgers. Not too much into reality TV with the exception of Project Runway, Face/Off, and Dancing With the Stars.

I saw Cloud Atlas at the second run theater and didn't hate it, which surprised me. Generally I'm an omnivore of movies, I reviewed them for blogs for a couple years, now it's just for fun. Thrillers, drama, sci-fi tend to be favorites, but don't mind horror, rom-com. Like weirdo indie, foreign, anything with great visuals or compelling story or emotionally potent acting will get me. Or a fcked up sex scene. A few favorite directors include: Nicole Holofcener, Todd Solondz, Alexander Payne, Hitchcock, Soderbergh, Michael Haneke, Atom Egoyan, but this list feels a little dated now that I'm making it.

I have 16,000 songs in my itunes, but then again, who doesn't these days? I like 60s jazz, 70s soul, 80s r&b, 90s hip-hop, and 00s indie pop. That last one sounds awkward. What will the 10s bring? I DJed for over 10 years in Chicago and in the last year my favorite project was collaborating with a friend to produce Soft Rock Sabbath, a Sunday night event of smooth and easy music.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
incense-filled quiet
walls lined with overflowing bookshelves
singing outloud
being outside in beautiful landscapes
my various loved ones
a companion animal
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
....why I loved or hated that book/movie/album.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
I work on a radio show every Friday evening from my laptop.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I work for a feminist pornographer.

When I say queer, I mean it - my desires can include poly, kinky, any gender, and sometimes periods of asexuality. Not always looking for dates or lovers or tricks, been exploring emotional intimacy in other ways right now, but reserve the right to change any answer at any time without worry the world will come crashing down around me.

When my profile says "drugs: sometimes", I'm talking about the ones that grow in the ground. And sometimes I really enjoy a hand-rolled cigarette, but I don't smoke tobacco with any regularity.

...you need a person with whom to go sing karaoke, or go to qi gong classes, or meditation sittings, or eat pizza, or see a movie/play, or go on hikes. I've been in the area just over a year and still building community! Being queer is a bonus, not necessary.
