I tend to start out in the shadows, but once I'm comfortable, I can
be very entertaining and fun to be around. I like to laugh!
The people that I like to be around are those that 'get' my humor.
I am fairly quick-witted, if I do say so myself, however I always
try to be respectful of a person's 'soft' spot and don't want to
make others uncomfortable with my humor.
Family is very important to me. They have always been there for me,
and I will always be there for them. Traveling is fun -- I love to
see new places and have a fascination for history and historical
locations. I usually collect all the little hand-outs and enjoy
reading more about the places that I've been. Yeah, a little nerdy,
I try to keep positive and upbeat. My job is pretty stressful
(unnecessarily so) so I have to paint a smile on my face every
morning. No one is happy there, so it's a challenge.
All in all, I think I am fun to be with, compassionate, and can be
a very good friend.
What I’m doing with my life
Working full time and trying to keep the wolf away from the door!
It's important to me to work hard at my job, and to KEEP my job.
That isn't as easy as it once was, in this economy. Work is a lot
more challenging these days. My plans for the future are simple,
really -- just try to be self-supporting and to be able to retire
at a decent age. Then, it would be great to travel a little and
spend time with those I love.
I’m really good at
I like people, and I 'like to be liked', if you will. If there is
something that I see that needs to be done, and it's something that
I feel qualified to do, I usually do it. I like to volunteer,
although I've slacked off a bit in the last few years. I've worked
with Special Olympics in the past, and would like to get back into
that. It's very rewarding to see the faces of the participants when
they accomplish a goal. It usually isn't just the 'winner' that
exudes pride and satisfaction, and that is a great life lesson. To
be honest, I'm NOT good at keeping up with my housework. Living
alone is my excuse for that -- lame though it is.
I am trying to change old habits, though.
I am a creative thinker in a lot of ways. And, I am a very
The first things people usually notice about me
Probably that I am not a size 6 gal -- more full figured. I'm not a
beautiful person in the classic sense, and I photograph horribly.
But, when people get to know me, they usually find that I am fun to
be with and have an interesting take on life. I don't take myself
too seriously AT ALL. I love to be entertaining and put others at
ease, so they may notice my laugh and goofy comments at first.
Humor is my way of dealing with my shyness, I guess, but I usually
know when to shup up, too!
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Loved "Gone with the Wind" (book and movie), was a fan of Steven
King until he became TOO out there, Charles Dickens, Maeve Binchy
novels. Movies; loved "Return to Me", "Planes, Trains and
Automobiles", "Young Frankenstein", the play "Les Miserable",
"Phantom of the Opera". I LOVE live theater, including community
theater, and have worked behind the scenes with several groups. I
like the oldies and easy listening in music. In food, Mexican,
Chinese, most any type. Living alone, and in the shadow of my
sister who is a Martha Stewart-type in the kitchen, I am not a good
cook, but I would like to learn when I have the time. It's no fun
to cook for one! :)
The six things I could never do without
Family, friends, faith, honesty, accountability, and humor. I am
pretty much a stickler about all of these, but especially the
honesty thing -- please be aware that I have a low tolerance for a
dishonest or unscrupulous or unethical person.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The way the bad economy is affectiing my friends and family --
never too far from my thoughts. I'm hoping that things in the
Detroit area improve soon. I know too many good people who have
been out of work far too long.
On a typical Friday night I am
Lately, on the phone, the computer, or watching TV. When the
weather isn't a negative factor, spending some time with friends
and family. Would love to have someone special to hang out with,
either out on the town, or just a quiet evening at home. I like
places like The Henry Ford (especially Greenfield Village) in my
spare time. Also, if there is a Tiger or Red Wing game, I can
easily get into that. (Not football, though!)
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I have a very strong spiritual side. My faith has helped me through
many difficult times. I believe in the strenth of prayer.
You should message me if
...you would like to find a new friend. I'm not a
game-player, and hope that you are not, either!
