My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.

Prefacer, introvert, king of hackneyed metaphors and verbosity, cyclist (no, I don't have a jersey).

I'd like to think "tough as dirt, mean as blood." However, according to a recent evaluation, I'm "bumbly and rambly," and that's probably closer to the mark.

Among my spirit animals: Barry Egan, ODB, Sam Lowry, Stephin Merritt.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Keeping erratic hours. (Ideally, I get up between 3 and 3:30, but this happens less often than I would like.)

Been working on my dissertation for about two and a half years and am more confused than when I began.

Trying to find a balance between my own - especially intellectual - fulfillment and actually making a difference in the world for the better.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
standardized history tests, gettin' it 4 cheap, ruminating.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Dazzling smile or infectious laugh.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

These tend to be by dead white German men.

I don't know anymore, I haven't watched nearly as many in the past couple years as I used to. Kubrick, Lynch, Malick, and P.T. Anderson still come to mind pretty readily. As do 8 1/2, Contempt, Dead Ringers, It's a Wonderful Life, The Passenger. Always: not overly self-aware B-movies (particularly with sharks...Shark Attack 3 sets the bar pretty high) and James Bond.

Not many, really. Simpsons (1-9), Twin Peaks.

I do, however, listen to a pretty decent amount of music. This week: Grouper, The Field, Codeine, Clipse, The 6ths, Nicolas Jaar.
Longstanding: Magnetic Fields, Califone (and RRM), Smog, Pavement, Brian Eno, Silver Jews, Galaxie 500, Boards of Canada, Stones, Beatles, Kinks. Pet Sounds, Odessey and Oracle.

Mostly meat, honestly, though also McIntosh apples, peanut butter and honey, coffee, dark chocolate, and roasted cauliflower, I s'pose.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Art, nature, community, solitude, possibility, commitment. And definitely a (functioning) bike; I feel like I'm missing a limb without one.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
What a self might be and how I'm supposed to be myself, baseball, what a monstrously unjust world we live in and that I'm doing nothing about it, when I can escape to the woods, possible long bike trips, when Flockaveli 2 is finally going to drop, how to make myself clear.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Out catching up with friends or in bed by 10.

you want to enjoy silence together. Or go out dancing (this kind: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ykhHEVqr-Bw). More rather than less serious about all this (though I'm by no means opposed to the latter).
