My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
At the moment I am interested in dating and making new friends, so let's meet up for coffee (or tea as I don't drink coffee) and see where things go. I have no preference regarding race, ethnicity, sexual or gender orientation in my partners or friends. She/her pronouns are fine.

Activism and politics are my passion. I am a socialist and committed to changing the world. The fight against racism, the death penalty, and the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq drew me into radical politics.

I love my work at an inpatient psychiatric hospital working with adults who are in severe crisis. I cannot think of a more rewarding setting in which to work. It is truly my honor to work with my patients and somehow connect with them in their darkest hours. Through this work I have learned, and continue to learn, how to be compassionate towards others and myself, which is an incredible gift.

While I take myself and my work seriously I find joy in the slightly off humor of everyday experience, such as my inability to spell or tripping over my own feet. If we didn't laugh at the small things we would cry when faced with the overwhelming suffering in this world. I chose to laugh and ride every carousel I lay eyes on.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
My life is a bit in flux. I fought and won my battle with Lyme Disease; it is a constant struggle to keep the disease in remission. Though I am very healthy now. I gradated with my Masters in Social Work in May 2015 and am currently working as a group counselor at a psychiatric facility. I hope to move closer to NYC in the near future.

I am also working on developing my craft as a photographer and I can often be found wandering around a park or garden with my camera. I hope to take a class on photography and film development in a dark room in the near future.

I am getting back into exercise and learning how to cook. Though I have no specialty dishes yet.

On the whole I love to spend time with my cat Ginger, my family, friends, the newspaper, and a good book.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Winning at miniature golf, i always get the highest score....hmm.

Also: making people laugh, photography, cross-stitch, giving massages, and deep conversations about politics, mental health, sexuality, film, or nonsense.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
My glasses, curly hair, and smile.

I look a lot younger than my age. I was sitting in my supervisor's office the other day and one my coworkers who I do not know very well thought I was a patient. This was on an adolescent unit, where the oldest patient is 17 years old. We had a good laugh about it.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
A favorite book?! I could go on forever about that; but I love books on history and politics because I want to understand the world in order to change it. I love a good novel and recently finished Fun Home; I can't recommend it enough. I have also recently gotten into reading memoirs, the most notable being This Common Secret: My Journey as an Abortion Doctor. There is so much to be learned and explored by opening the pages of a good book.

For those who like a list. Some of my favorite books/authors include: Jane Austen, Tolkien, Marx, Engels, American Born Chinese, Snuff, Education and Capitalism, Eating Our Hearts Out: women and their personal relationship to food, Nervous Conditions, Black Skins White Masks (the original English translation).

I like movies, just not horror films because I will scream in my chair the whole time.

Again for those who like lists: Lord of the Rings, Guardians of the Galaxy, Romeo+Juliet, Frozen (yes I am a preschool girl at times), Bridesmaids, Whiplash, Inside Out, anything by Osmene Sembene (considered the father of African Cinema), The life of Brian (I love Monty Python), and many more.

TV: Grey's Anatomy (yes it is a glorified soap opera and it is my semi-guilty pleasure), How to Get Away with Murder, Game of Thrones, Big Love, Coupling, Sherlock, and Dr. Who.Leslie Knop from Parks and Recreation is my spirit animal. I grew up watching and will always love my 1980s and 1990s Britcoms, M*A*S*H, and Monty Pythons Flying Circus.

I like whatever music is playing, especially if i can dance to it.

I am also a huge fan of theater, musicals, opera, and ballet. Some of my favorite shows include: Spring Awakening, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Wolf Hall, Macbeth, Hamlet, Something Rotten!, Les Miserables, and My Fair Lady. I adore Shakespeare and am working of reading and viewing all the plays.

I like to explore different culinary experiences by trying out restaurants that serve authentic ethnic food as one part of learning about other cultures. My favorites at the moment are Thai, South Indian, and Greek food.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
sunshine, politics, human contact, a daring novel, love, a walk in the woods
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Politics and the incredible human capacity for solidarity and compassion.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Relaxing after a busy week.

If I don't have plans I usually try and catch a movie at a local theater; I am lucky to live near a bunch of great mainstream and art cinemas.

When I have plans I am usually hanging out with friends, catching a play in NYC or locally, happy hour with my coworkers, or catching up on reading.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I sit in the shower to meditate.

Even after having braces I am still very self-conscious about my teeth.
