This section is neither complete nor short, so I forgive you if you
skip it to get to the good bits elsewhere.
I read a bit of everything, particularly non-fiction
, and I love a compelling
piece of literature. Anything by Neil Gaiman, Life of Pi
, City of Thieves
Guide To The Galaxy
, Bel Canto
, books on cinema
theory and practice. I
surprised myself and enjoyed Game of Thrones and the next two books
in the series. I've taken a break after #4. After giving him a fair
shot, I decided that I do not like Jonathan Safran Foer. I may be
the only one in my family of avid readers to say this.
, Big Lebowski
, Donnie Darko
, 40 Year Old
Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
& things with Zombies
. I like pretty much
anything, unless Michael Bay made it. I like to be moved, not
deafened. I try not to miss a Jim Jarmusch or Terrence Malick film.
From 2012 I really liked Rust + Bone, Django Unchained, &
might be my favorite band. I also love Wilco
, Pearl Jam
, Neko Case
, Heartless Bastards
, The 'mats
, The Meters
. I skip the techno stuff.
I dig the Muscle Shoals sound. I don't usually listen to the lyrics
of music, not even songs I love: it takes me years to learn the
words sometimes. I pay a lot more attention to the melody. I listen
to WFUV every morning when I wake up. I try to see bands I like
live. I've recently tried to get more into classical music and
while I don't know much about it, I rather like it. Between
Classical and modern, maybe you can show (play) me a thing or
I love food. Sushi and a home cooked French meal would be my
deathbed meal. I'll try anything except bananas (gross) or cream
(allergic). I also like cooking. I'm trying to get better at it,
but I have trouble timing everything to be ready at the same time.
I also brew my own beer. People say they like it, but I don't know
if they are being serious or "Hey, free alcohol!" But that's OK
because I like it!
