Books: Anything and everything by Graham Greene, Patrick Hamilton,
Richard Yates, Richard Ford and Philip Roth. Plus a bit of Douglas
Coupland (though everything of his post-about 2004 has been
decidedly ho-hum), a few classics, a dash of poetry, a little
modern history and probably more pulpy crime fiction than is
strictly good for you.
Oh, and Catch 22. Always Catch 22.
Movies: Lynch, Allen, Hitchcock, Altman, Linklater...
Music: I was a childhood Beatles obsessive and a teenage indie kid,
but I like to think I've broadened my horizons at least a little
since then. There's a special place in my heart reserved for The
Smiths and Neil Young. Apart from that - The Rolling Stones, The
Kinks, The Beach Boys, Velvet Underground, Big Star, Bob Dylan,
Leonard Cohen, Johnny Cash, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits, David
Bowie, Jimmy Webb, Elvis Costello, The Clash, The Replacements,
Robyn Hitchcock, Nick Cave, Pulp, Suede, The Auteurs, Hefner, Saint
Etienne, Tindersticks, Belle and Sebastian, Wilco, Ryan Adams, Mark
Eitzel, Mark Kozelek, Jason Molina, The National, Jens Lekman. The
list goes on...
