I am a musician, architecture major, and a pro poker player.
My Self-Summary
I just graduated with a Bachelor's in Architecture. For the past
three years I've been self employed as a professional poker player.
My job isn't as illustrious as it sounds, but nevertheless it still
affords me a lot of financial freedom in a time when nearly all of
my friends are struggling for work.
I've always found it awkward reading a self-description of
someone's personality, but I'll give it a shot. My sense of humor
is probably my biggest asset. I think people find me funny, but a
bit cynical at times. I tend to be overly honest with people, and I
don't really like euphemisms. I believe my cynical and
direct/honest characteristics were instilled at a young age due
being raised in the hateful/racist/Christian rural South.
That said, I believe that I'm a more considerate and "nicer" person
than most, and I have pretty good manners. These attributes are
probably the only ones I have growing up in the South to thank.
Luckily, I ditched the Southern accent by about age 15.
I really love movies. I even made a short film! It was terrible,
but one of the most fun experiences I've ever had. Music is also a
big part of my life.
I joined OKCupid because now that college is over and I don't have
a traditional career, I've become more socially isolated, and have
far fewer ways of meeting women. This seems like a great way to
remedy the problem.
What I’m doing with my life
Now that I'm a graduate, I'm thinking about doing some much needed
world traveling. I don't really have definitive plans for my life.
In five years I really have no idea where I will be or what I will
be doing, which I think is kind of cool, but I can understand that
others would rather have plans. A part of me desires the structure
that a 9 to 5 job would provide, but after working in a corporate
environment for several years, I'm just not sure if I could go back
to that.
I might be starting a rock band sometime in the near future, if my
guitar player ever moves down from Knoxville, lol. Stay tuned.
I’m really good at
I play
bass
guitar very well. I am at an intermediate with a few other
instruments including
guitar and
drums. I really want to learn piano and
become a better singer (I suck).
Even though I don't really ever use it, I actually do have a lot of
knowledge about architecture and building technology. I could
probably design a kick-ass house for you :)
I'm also good at
Poker (one would hope), and by extension
math, statistics and probability.
The first things people usually notice about me
Probably that I'm pretty short. And that I look mexican. Then
probably my cynical borderline nihilistic sense of humor.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Books: Don't really read books. I read the newspaper a lot and am
kind of a nerd when it comes to miscellaneous knowledge about
things. I have the internet to thank for that.
Movies: Way too many to name, probably easier to name off
filmmakers: Paul Thomas Anderson, Martin Scorsese, Quentin
Tarantino, Wes Anderson, Spike Jonze, Charlie Kaufman, Terry
Gilliam, Coen Brothers. My top ten favorite movies in no particular
order: Clockwork Orange, Adaptation, Royal Tenenbaums, Taxi Driver,
Pulp Fiction, Magnolia, Boogie Nights, Fargo, The Good the Bad and
the Ugly, and Clerks.
Music: Mostly 70's era
progressive rock, but I also
like 80's new wave, 80's punk, and some 80's metal. Newer bands I
like include the Mars Volta, Tool, and System of a Down.
I don't really see an option for it, but I am also a huge stand-up
comedy junkie. I'm a huge fan of George Carlin, Bill Hicks, David
Cross, Eddie Izzard, Patton Oswalt, Louis C.K., Richard Pryor, and
countless others.
Food: Like most non-seafood and am chronically addicted to eating
out at nice restaurants. Hate fast food.
The six things I could never do without
My guitar and my bass, my house that allows me to enjoy the
aforementioned guitar and bass at high volumes, the internet,
chapstick, well there's five.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Music, movies, politics, poker.
I am pretty opinionated when it comes to socio-political issues,
wherein I tend to be left-leaning. I am pro abortion, pro death
penalty, anti-gun, anti-theist, pro gay rights, and am for
universal health care. I also have a disdain for the American
tendency to put everything on credit and live way beyond one's
means. As a result, even though I make far more than the average
American, I drive a conventional car, and rent my place.
On a typical Friday night I am
Bolted to my desk chair, making an easy living, sigh. Hopefully
this will eventually say, "out having a stimulating conversation
and a beer with miscellaneous classy lady."
You should message me if
5'5" guys don't turn you off? Seriously, just send me a message if
you are like me and would like to meet someone new.
