My self-summary
I tend to speak only when I have something to say or to answer questions. I am not a garrulous person. My sense of humour has been described by many a dry. I would have to agree. Others would say that I am intelligent. I am determined - it has got me through many situations where others may have believed I would not. This has made me a problem solver. So, people come to me with their problems. I am an observer, not a voyeur.

My life is one of servitude. I have served the Queen and her government (however much they abused our trust and service) because I believed that I was defending the innocent; I have served my family - working to meet their needs over my own - they are now grown, but they are still an obligation. My life has been one of self-sacrifice (almost to the point of death, but I survived).

I am always there for others. I am devoted to my cats. I will get up at an ungodly hour in the morning because they are hungry. They will sleep on my lap and I will not get up until the cat has moved. Pathetic really, but that is just the way I am.

I lost my virginity when barely a teenager, but I think that I have found it again.

I am quiet, determined, and resourceful

What I’m doing with my life
Trying to find my chi. I left it here, somewhere.

When I was a gladiator for the state I had a purpose, but since then my life has just drifted along. This is my second life (borrowed time?) - medical science kept me alive some years ago. But for a surgeon's skill and the drugs I should be dead. This second life holds no fear; am I one of the undead?

I’m really good at
Listening; finding solutions to problems.

I am also good at being unobtrusive. A room can still be empty even with me in it. As a cyclist I perfected invisibility. Even when dressed in vibrant lycra it was not until I had draped myself in almost sexual abandon across a car's bonnet that a driver would exclaim "I didn't see you." Perfect.
I don't make a lot of noise when I move, silent really, which has caused several cases of 'freaking out' when my presence is discovered.

I was a marksman.

The first things people usually notice about me
They think that I am confident, but I have learnt how to ignore the fear. And after years of ignoring fear, why be afraid?

Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I'll read anything that doesn't move fast enough, mixing fiction with non-fiction. But I must admit to enjoying P G Wodehouse.

I prefer movies that entertain - you can keep art house. My favourite film? "If...". (Probably explains a lot. Public school and all that.)

Why are we only allowed to have favorite books, movies, music and food? What about other activities and favorites? I enjoy going to the theatre, and I also enjoy listening to a good stand-up comedian: Eddie Izzard, Rhod Gilbert, et al.

My musical taste is rather eclectic with an iPod of songs ranging from ABBA and Adele through The Clash and Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix and Bob Marley, Iggy Pop and Nina Simone, Paulina Rubio and Shakira, tATu and Traveling Wilberys, to The Who and Gheorghe Zamfir. I'm smitten by Shakira; she has done something more with her celebrity.

I love fish and chips from the local chip shop, but I also enjoy curries, Chinese, Italian, indeed I enjoy any well-prepared tasty food. But with the food I would also enjoy wine (red) and beer. I am partial to Pimms, and to vodka, with either orange juice or ginger ale, and rum with Coke.

The six things I could never do without
1. My mind. It still works, occasionally.
2. My body. Same as above.
3. My pets. They are my link to reality.
4. Mountains. Because they are there.
5. New discoveries.
6. Sex. As 1 above.

I spend a lot of time thinking about
who we are; who I am; how so many of us have been 'brainwashed' by the society and culture in which we have been raised; and how so many of us are incapable of seeing beyond the irrational. Why do so many 'educated' people believe in fairy stories, and that a book of ancient myths is true?

Why do universities try to remove the ideas of the philosophers from the social history of their time?

On a typical Friday night I am
Eating fish and chips; relaxing now that the working week is over; looking forward to two days when this drudge doesn't have to go into the office, when it can be itself, and go back to bed after feeding the cats.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit
"Fear is the path to the dark side: fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering." I have no fear any more. I should have died in 1990.
