I am liberal, artsy, and adventurous.

My Self-Summary

I am kind of a political junkie, although I'm less into politics than I used to be. I'm a democratic socialist. Look it up, it's not as bad as you may think it is. ;) I'm a college student going into my fifth year as a political science and women's studies major. I love pretty much all music, including punk rock, darkwave, and industrial. I was raised by an amazing single mother. I love cats, and I have 3 of them. I think I'm both a realist and a romantic when it comes to love, if that can be possible. I adore spooky things, including zombies, bats, vampires, and Sarah Palin. Ok, I was lying about liking Sarah Palin. But she's gone from the national scene now so hopefully all this is irrelevant anyway. I'm fairly smart, but that doesn't mean I think any less of anyone who isn't. I'm not an intellectual snob at all. I get frustrated with people who think they know everything, because there is so much we all need to learn. I love exploring new ideas, and I find it disappointing that I can never know all that I want to. But I can try anyway. All this makes me sound somewhat nerdy, but that is misleading too. I try to balance my social life and academia, but I don't think academics are the only way to learn. You can't get life experience by sitting on a computer or in a library all day, and I certainly don't want to miss out on all the fun and bonding I am offered by my amazing friends.

What I’m doing with my life

Again, I'm going to college as a women's studies and political science double major, and am planning on going to grad school soon. I want to help make the world a better place, so hopefully I'll be able to work for a non-profit organization or an interest group or something along those lines. Grad school is definite, but the timing and area of study is not concrete just yet, I will be applying to both the social work and counselor education programs at UMaine.

I’m really good at

Debating. Teaching. Writing. But I don't actually LIKE writing much. Tragic. I'm also good at listening and my friends seem to think I'm good at giving advice. I have a friend who claims I should abandon my college education to become a masseuse because I've got some mad massage skills. I also rock at cuddling!

The first things people usually notice about me

In the not so distant past, they probably noticed my rainbow colored hair and piercings first. I like to disprove stereotypes. Nowadays, the hot pink hair has given way to some auburn red, but the piercings are still fairly prominent I think. Then again, people seem to think I look fairly natural with my piercings, so maybe they blend in at first.

Also, I try to smile at people when I make eye contact. I probably weird some people out, but I find it makes me happier and hopefully it does the same to them. :-D

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

A)Living Downstream, She's Not There, The Poisonwood Bible, That Takes Ovaries!, Listen Up!, Silent Spring, Exile and Pride, Our Bodies-Ourselves, Zami: A New Spelling of My Name, The Weetzie Bat Books

B) Hedwig and the Angry Inch, most comedies, Live Freaky Die Freaky, Shaun of the Dead, most Zombie movies (I haven't seen a zombie movie I DON'T like), Freedom Writers, Fahrenheit 911, and lots of documentaries

C)I like a LOT of music. I tend to like punk and industrial/darkwave the most, but I really enjoy a wide range. Some of my favorite bands are: Anti-Flag, The Casualties, Manson, MSI, System of a Down, Ryan Harvey, Korn, The Unseen, Bella Morte, The Cranberries, Pink, Sinead O'Connor, Bob Marley, John Lennon, The Misfits, Queen, AFI, USA Waste, Bad Religion, and so many more. Sometimes I just like to chill out to Native American flute recordings too.

D)Eggplant Parmigiana, ice cream, broccoli, Italian, Chinese(Americanized), Mexican/south American, very vanilla soy milk, bananas, blueberries, vegetarian dishes (ok, so I like food in general haha)

The six things I could never do without

Six is such an arbitrary number. Who says I get EXACTLY SIX things? Does this count the obvious things like food, water, clean air, basic shelter? I'll assume those are already included. 1)My mom/family 2)My friends 3)My cats 4)Hugs and other physical affection 5)My medicine 6)Political and social activism

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Social and environmental justice, my friends, my work and schoolwork, gender issues, animal rights, where I'm going in life, what I should be DOING instead of THINKING about doing.

On a typical Friday night I am

Typically, I'm out at a friend's place/party, or just visiting with friends in general. Sometimes I'm at my apartment, or at my mom's house in the country visiting with my her, my little brother, and the kitties after a week of school. On especially busy weeks I'm doing homework.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

Meh, I'm pretty open about most things, but I can't seem to think of anything overly taboo or private at the moment.

You should message me if

You're not intimidated by a strong woman, physically and mentally. You want to make the world a better place. You like going to punk shows. You think gender is fluid, and maybe orientation too. You like cats. You have an open mind. You don't need to fit all of these things, they're just examples. If you've read my profile and have a comment or question on any of it, or if you just think I seem like an interesting person that you'd like to chat with, just send a message my way! I'm pretty friendly ;)
