My self-summary
I like learning, exploring, close relationships, and making my community a better place. I am very committed to the people in my life, and am good at making relationships work. I work well under uncertainty, I think carefully through my actions and beliefs, and I travel light (through life and through the world). I grew up in the Bay Area, spent six years in Boston, and now I'm back.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm a fifth-year PhD student in theoretical computer science at Stanford (though currently living in Berkeley). I expect to stay in the Bay Area after I graduate.
I’m really good at
Being there for people, understanding how things work, math, running.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books I've enjoyed in the recent past: The Places in Between, Comparative Biomechanics: Life's Physical World, Gone with the Wind, The Sense of Style, The Metamorphosis, and The Death and Life of Great American Cities.
I probably like many of the books you read in your high school/college English classes.

I don't really watch movies or TV, but I do enjoy theater and other live performance, and especially smaller and more experimental shows. I also love performing and being in shows, though haven't done so in several years.
On a typical Friday night I am
Varies a lot year to year. In the last couple of years, in no particular order: hanging out with friends, doing math, backpacking, urban travelling, climbing, building things out of 2x4s, exploring, running, organizing math contests, or attending dance practice.
You should message me if
I'm happy to hear from anyone, and don't spend too much time on it -- I don't think anyone likes writing initial okcupid messages! Feel free to use this template to make it even faster:

As a heads up, I will likely respond with a suggestion that we meet up (if you're in Berkeley, or able to get here), or chat on the phone or over skype; we can save the long email exchanges for after we're together :).
