I am a little competitive, a little crazy, and fun on a bun.

My Self-Summary

I moved to Austin about a year ago for school, but I would love to widen my social circle and continue discovering all the weirdness Austin has to offer.

I am equal parts homebody and social butterfly. I don't like the phrase "curl up on the couch", since I'm more of a sprawl out on the couch type of gal. Great flick, tasty homemade dinner with classy individuals, inappropriate dinner conversations... That's the ticket.

Awesome.

Oh, I've also done a fair bit of overseas travel. Next on the list is Croatia.

What I’m doing with my life

I am currently getting my master's degree at UT Austin in Journalism. I am an aspiring writer and Journalism researcher.

I try not to take myself too seriously. I work at a small computer software company during the week and a florist on the weekends. I've been told it's "greedy" of me to have two jobs in a down economy on top of school. If I don't keep busy, I lose my mind, though.

I’m really good at

Pinball, Karaoke, baking, public speaking, putting my foot in my mouth, being self sufficient, school, taking care of friends and family, movie trivia and quotes, being my toughest critic, NOT getting lost, Nintendo Wii (Mario Kart in particular), crossword puzzles

The first things people usually notice about me

My laugh
I took a poll, and friends said my eyes, too
My sassy hair has to go on here, I suppose.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Garg, this is tough! Authors first, I suppose. In no particular order, since my friend recently rearranged my bookshelves CHROMATICALLY!: Richard Adams, Raymond Carver, Orson Scott Card, Italo Calvino, Philip Pullman, Mark z. Danielewski, Virginia Woolf, Haruki Murakami, Ayn Rand (mock me if you must), Chuck Palahniuk of old, Robert Jordan, Kurt Vonnegut, Hunter S. Thompson, Wilbur Smith, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Bill Watterson (Calvin and Hobbes, yo), and Jane Austen

Movies: ANYTHING with a Zombie, Evil Dead 2, Dead Alive, I Heart Huckabees, Alien Quadrilogy, Machine Girl, Tokyo Gore Police (and other Japanese Gore), Match Point, Lust Caution, Heavenly Creatures (you'll never look at Peter Jackson the same after this and Dead Alive), Juno, The Secret Garden, Shawshank Redemption, The Emperor's New Groove, The Big Lebowski, Labyrinth (not even ironically!), A Perfect Murder, Snatch, Lock Stock, Dummy, Brick, The Brothers Bloom, Eternal Sunshine, Wes Anderson anything, uhhhh... etc.

Music: I won't go on and on with this one, but just mention what I've been listening to lately: Phoenix, Metric, Bat for Lashes, the Beatles, Radiohead, Bon Iver, Jeff Buckley, the Shins, Daft Punk, Pantha Du Prince, Yo La Tengo, Fleetwood Mac... judge away :-)

Television: Futurama, Mad Men, Project Runway, The Wire, So You Think You Can Dance, Entourage, The Shield, Law and Order (old-schooly), Mythbusters, Planet Earth, The Office, 30 Rock, Dexter, etc. For someone who doesn't have a tv, I sure watch a lot of television.

Food- easier to list what I don't enjoy. I am a very adventurous eater, but not foods with the shape/texture of eyeballs... and I've had eyeballs.

The six things I could never do without

My brothers
Music that thumps in your chest
A new book
A cool pillow at night
Ginny Cakes, my cat
Futurama, or something else to make me laugh at least once a day

and now I'm cheating and adding BLOOOGS!!
and denim

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Lately, research proposals and thesis topic

Also, how I would survive the Zombie apocalypse. First thing, you need to clean your bathtub, plug the drain, and fill with potable water for drinking. Won't last forever, but typically, your tub is the largest storage container you'll have. My friend's mother works for a pharmaceutical company that is producing the H1N1 vaccine, and that was her sage advise. I don't really think she was talking about Zombies, which is almost more frightening!

On a typical Friday night I am

I have no typical Friday- I definitely like to go out and cut a rug, but sometimes making dinner with friends, sometimes karaoke, sometimes putting on my party pants and heading out for a drink with friends,

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I'm an open book, just ask.
