My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Been living in LA for the last 6 years or so, came down here for school. The smog and the horrible traffic become familiar and somewhat endearing eventually, I promise. Okay no, I don't. Anyway, just hoping to find someone cool to hang out with. Yay, internet!
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Well, I just finished graduate school last year (Master's degree in classical music! yay poverty forever!), now I'm working around town teaching and playing, stuff like orchestras, opera companies, film scores and studio tracks. I also teach after-school music through a non-profit to kids in underfunded schools in the poorer parts of town who got their arts budget destroyed years ago (thanks dubya!). Aside from that I rot my brain on the internet and video games like a real American.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
That ridiculous giant violin thing at the back of the orchestra. You know, the one that's the size of a fucking person. The double bass is a harsh mistress, but if you call it a cello you are dead to me. Anyway, yeah, so I'm basically just good at this one stupid thing and worthless for everything else, but it pays the bills and I do have an awful good time doing it. Just recorded a horror film soundtrack in a fancy studio the other night, and it fulfilled my lifelong dream of getting to be the creepy rumbling noise in the score that comes in right before something terrible happens and/or someone gets their face ripped off (I'll have to wait for the movie to be released to find out what murder methods were involved in aforesaid scenes).

Also I can still beat a bunch of my old Super Nintendo games from 20 years ago. That's something...right?

Books: Lately I've been binge-reading a lot of Philip K. Dick's obscure works from the 50's and 60's (having polished off most of his major stuff). I also have a gigantic GMILF crush on Margaret Atwood, everything she does is amazing and I can't wait for her to finish the sequel to Year of the Flood. Robert Anton Wilson, um, Stephen King (especially The Dark Tower), Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke, Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams, Alan Watts, Neil Gaiman, the Principia Discordia, Philip Pullman, dorky fantasy shit I'd rather not discuss in public, and everything Carl Sagan ever wrote.

Movies: The Original Star Warses, All the even numbered Star Trek films, Stanley Kubrick (in general), The Fountain, The Monty Python films, Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind, The Princess Bride, Brasil, Children of Men, This Is Spinal Tap, Amadeus

Shows: Thankfully, I had the wherewithall to cancel my cable TV subscription about 3 years ago, and my brain's been thanking me for it, but thanks to the marvels of the internet you can just watch anything good online for free anyway, sooo.... It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Metalocalypse, Arrested Development, Archer, The Whitest Kids u Know, Squidbillies (it's high art and if you think it sucks you are a philistine), Louie (bless that man's fat bald ginger self, I think he's a sexy bastard), well-made science documentaries, all the Star Trek shows (I rewatched TNG straight through in order over the course of this last year...judge as you will)

Music: Kinda all over the place. Being as I spend so much time around it, I definitely have a huge soft spot for some of the great classical composers, Bach, Mahler, Shostakovich, etc, I'll spare you further details but if you want to nerd out on that shit with me I will love you forever. As far as rock stuff goes, I'm occasionally a sucker for stuff that might be too dorky for my own good. Some bands I like, off the top of my head: Pink Floyd, Muse, The Beatles, Queens of the Stone Age, Rush (I have a giant 2112 poster), Simon and Garfunkel, Death From Above 1979, King Crimson, Coheed and Cambria, Stone Temple Pilots, Led Zeppelin, Queen, The Living End, Iron Maiden, everything Ronnie James Dio ever graced with his dulcet tones, System of a Down, Soundgarden, The Sword, Fleetwood Mac, The Doors, Black Sabbath, Big Brother and the Holding Company, Jimi Hendrix

Food: I'm pretty adventurous. Pho is awesome and I may have a mild opiate-esque addiction to it. I also really like to cook

Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
How we're possibly going to successfully navigate through the giant clusterfuck humanity has put itself in right now as a species, to ensure the continued survival of ourselves and the planet so we can make good on 4 billion years of evolution and get on with our exploration of space already.

Also boobs.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Either off at a rehearsal or concert or something, or generally at home at my new apartment hanging out with my pet tiny baby parrot trying to raise him to be a good person. Bird. Whatever. Okay mostly I'm just trying to get him to say funny shit.
