My self-summary
I'm originally from Austin, TX (the cool part of Texas!) and moved to Melbourne to do a PhD in philosophy in 2009. Before this, I lived in Cardiff, Wales and Montreal, Canada. I figured that if I'm going to accrue a bunch of debt for school, I might as well see the world at the same time before I spend the rest of my life paying it back. And since I studied philosophy, I'm sure it goes without saying that I'm very practically minded. No. What it does mean is that I tend to pursue a point until everyone else has lost interest. On the plus side, I can make even the most absurd position sound somewhat plausible and vice versa. In other words, I'm at least entertaining to talk to. And if travelling around in philosophical circles doesn't do it for you, I also play guitar, like everyone else. So there's some sensitivity to go along with my disposition to over analyze. Some people just want to watch the would deconstruct.
What I’m doing with my life
I've just finished my PhD thesis in philosophy and will be lecturing this year. After that, who knows? I would love to stay in academia, but it's pretty difficult to land a permanent position.
I’m really good at
Putting into practice the Socratic method
Telling non-politically correct jokes
(Very) lame puns
Being affectionate
Making chipotle salsa
The first things people usually notice about me
Audibly, my laugh or my accent (even though I'm still finding it difficult to admit that I'm the one with the accent!); visually, my eyes or smile, if I'm being optimistic. More realistically, it's probably that I'm a big guy.

I spend a lot of time thinking about
Mainly about how things work and fit together in the broadest possible sense.
On a typical Friday night I am
either reading a book, trying out a new restaurant, out having a drink with friends, listening to a band, or watching a movie.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I sometimes suffer from anxiety. And I love Ace of Base.
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 26–36
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating
You should message me if
you aren't easily offended and love to laugh, you are kind and thoughtful, you enjoy a spirited debate on any topic and are interested in finding things out, don't mind a quiet night in every once in a while, you don't feel the need to check Facebook/your phone numerous times while watching a movie, and you like instrumental music. If you sometimes find yourself looking up at the illuminated buildings as they stand out against the night sky as you walk through the city, then we'd work well together.
